Recky Times Week 4 • July 6, 2012 What we did this week Red, White, and Camp Recky! Scamper/KOM Buckeyes: Campers celebrated Independence Day by making our Lady Liberty Torches, decorating cookies, and constructing a large American Flag with red footprints and blue handprints. The children enjoyed face paintings and threw a pie in their counselors in the face! It was lots of messy fun! Discovery/KOM Brutus: The campers celebrated the holiday by making their own stars, hats, and playing water games! Explorer/KOM Scarlet: The campers played their favorite camp games.They made homemade bean bags out of balloons and flag pins to show their red, white, and Camp Recky spirit. On Friday, campers enjoyed snow cones. Adventure/KOM Grey: Campers participated in a mock capitalist economy. They received money to use, had chances to win the lottery, and participated in an auction. They learned about American history and played many classic games with a patriotic twist! Sports Camps: Outdoor Pursuits: The campers had adventures hiking, rock climbing, and playing Frisbee. Volleyball: Volleyball campers learned serving, setting, bumping, and great sportsmanship. Teen Leaders: This week, campers focused on how famous leaders including Ghandi, Margaret Thatcher, and Ronald Reagan, used teamwork and patience. They incorporated their leadership skills in the afternoons by swimming, snack time, and leading activities with younger campers. Kids in the Kitchen: Campers learned to cook new breakfast favorites like scrambled egg

What we did this week Red, White, and Camp Recky!Scamper/KOM Buckeyes: Campers celebrated Independence Day by making our Lady Liberty Torches, decorating cookies, and constructing a large American Flag with red footprints and blue handprints. Next Week Wizards, Princesses, and Ogres Scamper/KOM Buckeyes: Campers will explore fairy tales by making

their own princess/prince crowns, ogre masks, and a castle of boxes! Children orchestrate a skit to perform for everyone on Friday. Tree planting and cool experiments are planned throughout the week.

Discovery/KOM Brutus: Discovery will get animated with wizards, princesses, and ogres. Campers will make Shrek slime and paint out of shaving cream.

Explorer/KOM Scarlet: Imaginations as will be used campers play

games like wizard tag and smugglers. Campers will write a skit to perform on Friday.

Adventure/KOM Grey: Next week, campers will play magical and

medieval games like Quiddich and jousting, have a talent show, and run through the ogre obstacle course.

Sports Camps: Campers will take to the gridiron again for another round

of flag football. While some pull flags and score touchdowns, others will hit the nets, and score goals in lacrosse camp.

Teen Leaders: The Teen Leaders will continue developing their

leadership skills by exploring famous athletes. Leaders will learn a new sport every day, including rugby, cricket, and goal ball, a game traditionally played by visually impaired individuals.

Kids in the Kitchen: Next week is about food science. Campers will

Letter from the Camp Directors• Although this week was short, it was packed with

fun and adventure!

• We would like to remind you to send your children

to camp without their toys.

• If you drop off your campers in the morning, please

try to arrive between 7:30-9 a.m. Campers who come late miss activities and counselors must leave their groups to pick up late campers. If you are dropping off for afternoon only, please drop off between 12-12:15 pm. If you are running a few minutes late, please call the community programs office at (614) 688-8787 to let the staff know.

Additional Reminders• Apply sunscreen prior to bringing your child to camp and pack sunscreen.

• Pack a water bottle, label all belongings, and make sure your child knows what their belongings look like.

• As a reminder, the swimming schedule for the summer is:KOM Buckeyes (finished kindergarten): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. KOM Brutus (finished 1st and 2nd): Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. KOM Scarlet (finished 3rd and 4th): Monday, Wednesday, Thursday.KOM Grey (finished 5th and 6th): Monday, Tuesday, Thursday.

*Camps will be swim biweekly on Fridays.

Odd weeks = KOM Buckeyes and KOM ScarletEven Weeks = KOM Brutus and KOM Grey

• Please turn in all medical forms as soon as possible so we can reach you in case of emergency.

• Remember to pay any remaining balances by calling (614) 688-8787.

• When dropping off, please remember to write legibly who the authorized pick-up for your camper will be to make pick up smoother.

• Please indicate what time you will be picking up your child. If your camper is leaving before 3:30, please indicate a time so campers are ready to go.

• If your camper is participating in after-care swim, pick them up at 5:30 p.m. Campers will get out of the pool at 5:15 p.m. and will need time to change and get to the turnaround. Thanks!
