Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren,

I would not have you ignorant.

(1.Cor.12: 1)

(To remain ignorant is not an excuse)

What spiritual gifts are?Not the natural talents (1.Cor.12: 1)

Diverse gifts by one Spirit (1.Cor.12: 4)

Divides severally as He (Spirit) will (1.Cor.12: 11)

At everyman’s disposal to use decently and in order (1.Cor.14: 32)

Given to profit withall (1.Cor.12:7)

For the edification of the saints (Eph.4: 12)

(Spiritual gifts are not the natural talents)


What spiritual gifts are? NEITHER IT IS….

UNCTION OF THE H. SPIRIT (2.Cor.1: 21)

BAPTISM OF THE H. SPIRIT (1.Cor.12:13)

SEAL OF THE H. SPIRIT (2.Cor.1: 22)

ADVANCE OF THE H. SPIRIT (2.Cor.1: 22)

INDWELLING OF THE H. SPIRIT (1.Cor.3: 16)

(Every believer inherits all the above at the very moment comes to faith)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

NOR IS THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Galatians 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit

is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:

All should be a in a person as the “FRUIT” (Nine in one)

But all the gifts cannot be seen in a person (1.Cor.12: 11)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

NEITHER THE SIGN TO DISCERN A BELIEVER

(Could be false. Eg; Simon –Acts.8: 18; Sons of Sceva – Acts.19: 14)

NOR THE SIGN TO DISCERN THE SPIRITUAL

Could be misused (1.Cor.14: 27-33)

Can have all the gifts but carnal (1.Cor.17; 3: 1)

(For the gifts and calling of God are without

repentance. Rom.11: 29)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

(Lk.6: 44)

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns,

or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

(Mat.7: 16-17)

(Not the manifestation of the gifts the sign, but fruit of the Spirit the sign of the believer)

FRUIT – ALL WILL BE IN A PERSON

Love, Joy, Peace (Towards self) Long-sufferings, gentleness, goodness (Toward

others) faith, meekness, temperance ( towards God)

(But for sure one or more gifts for every one, for the profit withal- 1.Cor.12: 7-11)

HOW TO EXERCISE THE GIFTS

Use for the profit withal (1.Cor.12: 7)

Excel to edify the church (1.Cor.14:12) Neglect not the gift in you (1.Tim. 4: 14) Stir up the gift in you (1.Tim.1: 6) Give none offence (1.Cor.10: 30-31)

THE SPHERE TO EXERCISE

In subjection to the Spirit (1.Cor.14: 36)

WHAT WAS PROBLEM AT CORINTH ? (The lack of gifts or the improper use of the gifts ?)

So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: (1.Cor.1: 7) (Had they possessed all gifts ?)

GIFTS SAID TO BE “VANISH AWAY”

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall

cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

(1.Cor.13: 8)

WHEN WILL IT CEASE OR VANISH AWAY ?

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when

that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. (1.Cor.13: 9-10)

APOSTLES

Must understand as New Testament Prophets

Peter warned against ..(2.Pet.2: 1) But some claims themselves..

MINISTRY OF GREAT COMMISION (Mat.28:18) (Special ability to speak the Gospel)

Example- PHILIP (Acts.8: 5; 12; 35; 21: 8)Preach the Gospel

(Ministry is outside the church; never to be servants of men or institutions; often moving from place to

place; free yet remains obliged to the church; church also

obliged to support by all means)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

PASTORS (SHEPHERDS)Office concerned to the local church (Acts.20:17)

SYNONYMS of “ Elders” Or “Oversears” (Acts. 20: 28) Every church more than one (Phil.1:1)

Appointed by the Holy Spirit (Acts.20: 28)

Qualification (1.Tim.3:1-7; Tit.1:6-9; 1.Pet.5:1-5)

TEACHERS Ministry not bound to the Local church only

Gifted to teach (1.Cor.12: 8; 2.Tim.2: 15)

Very responsible (Ja.3:1; 1.Tim.2: 4) (Beware of false teachers- Acts.20: 30; 2.Pet.2:

1; 2.Jn.9-10, 1.Tim.1: 3)

He must be (Rom.12: 7; Mat.13: 52; 1.Tim. 4: 13; 16) (Steadfast) In teaching.

PROPHECY

PROPHECY PAST AND WHAT IT MEANS NOW?

1. SPOKE NEW REVELATION (1.Cor.14: 30) 2. SPOKE OF FUTURE (Acts.20: 11)

PROPHECY WILL CEASE (1.Cor.13: 8) 3. NOW- SPEAK NOTHING NEW; BUT EXPOUNDING THE

Reminding, Encouraging, Counseling

Showing the right way

Beseech (Often with tears)

Ministry like that of Barnabas

Epistle to Hebrews is example for exhortation.

But as gift it is direct and not gained by experience

(Wisdom of world – Ja.3: 15-17 differ from Wisdom from above so it is with the gift Knowledge)

REVELATION

GIFT – Revelation (1.Cor.14: 26) (Received as a if shown by removing curtain)

Paul wrote much by the use of this gift. (Eph. 3: 3; 2.Cor.12: 7) Now only illumination

over written words (no more new revelation to

anyone)

In the early Church gatherings exercised like other gifts (1.Cor.14: 30)

(Now no more the same gift; As no more need of new Revelation; as it is complete)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

GIVING (CONTRIBUTING)

Giving was a gift of Macedonians (2.Cor.8; 9)

Extra ordinary way of giving is a gift rarely seen (Lk.6: 38; Pro.3: 9; Mal.3: 10)

Tithe was obligatory under the Law

But not under Grace; For (1.Cor.6: 19) we are obliged to give ourselves to the Lord. (It is not because they have more than others they give generously; Who desires this gift ?)

MERCY (HELPS)

Is a Christian character (Ja.2: 13)

Showing extra ordinary mercy, is a gift (Rom.12: 8)

Must do it cheerfully (Rom.12: 8)

Do to the household of faith (Gal.6:10)

Greatly rewarding (Mat.5: 7)

(Who will desire and pray for this gift ?)

GOVERNMENTS (RULE)

One of the gifts of Elders (1.Tim.5: 17)

To do it with diligence (Rom.12: 8)

They are accountable (Heb.13: 17)

Rewarding (1.Pet.5: 4)

Others must submit to them (1.Pet.5: 5; Heb.13: 17)

(1 Peter 5: 2-3 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.)

(CAN YOU SHOW ANYONE HAVING THIS GIFT IN AN INFALLIABLE MANNER NOW ?)

FAITH IS ONE OF THE GIFT (1.Cor.12: 9)

DIFFERENT FROM FAITH UNTO SALVATION, ALL HAVE EXPERIENCED (Eph.2: 8)

AS EXTRAORDINARY FAITH IN EXERCISING (IN MINISTRY, ADVERSITY, NEEDS IN GOD’S WORK)

(Like Hudson Taylor, or George Muller having seen not any resources did extraordinary ministry)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS(SIGN GIFTS)

HEALINGS

As gifts exercised (Act.3: 8; 5: 15-16; 9: 34; 14: 10; 28: 8) Instantly healed

God confirmed their words thru.. (Mk.16: 20)

God confirmed His words thru wonders and miracles (Heb.2: 3-4)

Ceased later (2.Tim.4: 20; Phil.2: 27)

GIFT IS DIFFERENT FROM PRAYER FOR HEALING

(What miracle healers do this days, healing or mocking ?)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS

MIRACLES

Not only healing but other visible and extra ordinary acts. (Jn.2: 11; Acts.6: 8)

Sign of Apostleship (1.Cor.12: 11)

God confirmed His word (Heb.2: 1-3)

(Natural man looks always for miracles and wonders only – But faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God)

(Now no need of miracles to bring anyone to salvation)

WHAT TONGUES ARE?

Languages existing in the world (1.Cor.14: 10)

Voice with out significance are not (1.Cor.14:10)

When the charismatic movements started ?Foundation is experience or Word of God ?What all we hear from them are tongues ?Why speak publicly with out interpreters ?Do Bible says tongues the sign of Holy Spirit?


SPIRITUAL GIFTS(INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES)

INTERPRETATION OF TOUNGUES

Who possess this gift now ?Do they claims to speak in tongues search for interpreters before speaking in tongues ? Can anybody volunteer for a test ?Do they speak as on the day of Pentecost, one after the other?

(The tongues united all believers on the day of Pentecost; Will all “CHARISMATIC” ready to merge as one? )

Now tongues only common for them; though different in doctrines

(WHERE TONGUE CEASED WHAT USE FOR INTERPRETING)


SPIRITUAL GIFTS(WHAT YOUR DECISION)

IN SUMMARY

No more Apostles and prophets; but you have their doctrines and writings

You have the perfect (written) Word of God; do you want the ministries in part by gifts ?

God confirmed His word thru miracles and wonders giving the Spirit; you still need sign gifts further to believe it now ?

Since clearly written some of the gifts will cease or vanish; how can you expect them now?
