Supervision

Supervision is a process in which two or more people participate in a joint effort to: Promote Establish Maintain Elevate

The supervisor is responsible for: Setting Encouraging EvaluatingWork performed by the supervisee

Quality Supervision

o A mutual undertaking that:

o Fosters growth and development

o Ensures appropriate training and potential

o Encourages creativity and innovation

o Provides guidance, support, encouragement and

respect

o Promoting the goals of the individual and the

facility

1. Direct –Supervisor: provides daily, direct contact

2. General- Scheduled: contact face – to – face, use

alternate methods as needed

3. Indirect – Available: as needed and reviews service

delivery, treatment plans and treatment outcomes

Stage One/Entry Level

o OT and OTA collaborate in practice area

o OT completes evaluation

o OTA and OT collaborate on results

o OTA completes treatment from plan of care

with direct supervision

o Notes reviewed and co-signed by OT

Stage Two/Intermediate

o OTA contributes to evaluation

o Assigned assessments from OT

o OTA and OT co-treat for periodic re-

assessments

o OTA provides treatments and receives

Indirect supervision from OT

o Notes Co-signed

Stage Three/Advanced

o OTA completes assigned assessments

o (ADL , vision, perceptual)

o OTA reviews results with OT to establish plan

of care

o OTA and OT co–treat or exchange

treatments/Re-assessments

o Notes Co-signed

Stage Four/Competent Practitioner

OTA completes delegated assessments and

treatments
