Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations.

Bauer Media joined the Bauer Media Group in January 2008 following acquisition of Emap plc’s consumer and specialist magazines, radio, TV, online and digital businesses. Collectively, the Group employs some 6,400 people.

Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio - widely recognised and rewarded as being industry innovators.

Our business is built on influential media brands with millions of personal relationships with engaged readers and listeners. Our strategy is to connect audiences with excellent content through our broad multi-touch point brand platforms, wherever and whenever and however they want. Our wide portfolio of influential brands gives us advantages over pure play magazine or radio competitors.

Our magazine heritage stretches back to 1953 with the launch of Angling Times and the acquisition in 1956 of Motor Cycle News, both still iconic brands within our portfolio.

The seeds of the company’s radio business were planted in 1990 with the acquisition of London dance station Kiss FM (now called Kiss 100), followed by the acquisition of Liverpool's Radio City and later by TWC and the Metro Group. Then came the acquisition of Melody FM which was transformed into the market-leading Magic 105.4.

In 1994, the company bought a small magazine called For Him Magazine which is now the core of the best-selling international multi-platform brand FHM.

In 1996, we acquired digital music TV channel The Box, as a route into the small screen business, which has grown into Box Television, a seven channel joint venture TV business with Channel 4.

Continuing its history of magazine launches, Closer was launched in 2002 and Britain’s first weekly glossy, GRAZIA, was launched in 2005.

Today, Bauer Media spans over 80 influential brand names covering a diverse range of interests including heat – the must have weekly celebrity title, Parkers, MATCH!, CAR and Yours. For a full list our powerful brands, click here.

Bauer Media is a sister company of H Bauer Publishing, publisher of the UK's biggest TV listings, Take a Break and Bella.

• There are some advantages and disadvantages such as my implied audience would be familiarised with the magazine mojo where as they wouldn’t know of my magazine. This means that mass advertisement would have to take place in order for my magazine to create an effectible income.

• An advantage would be that my magazine would be new to the market which would intrigue my implied audience. There is not another magazine which is wholly based on alternative music like mine is. My magazine could reach to a wider audience as it is new and more people are likely to attempt to but something they haven't seen before when being introduced to music magazines.

• Magazines such as music magazines are distributed by companies such as Bauer and ipc media. After researching the company Bauer I came to the conclusion that that was the company I would like to distribute my magazine to. This is because they distribute magazines such as mojo which have alternative features within their magazine.

My music magazine ill promote both female and male artists. Encouraging female equivalency as the magazine mojo does not seem to do this. As the readers go into their teen years they focus more on the actual talent as the artists will have general talent rather than a pretty face.

Distribution of Bauer Has a large amount of regular consumers meaning distribution will be better.

Hey have created and work with many different genres meaning they are able to facilitate another.

Connections through different media companies meaning there can be a variety with distribution.

Visual Comparison

- One other magazine which would be good to distribute my magazine would be time Inc. (previously known as ipc media). Ipc media were founded in the late 1960s and over year they will sell approximately 350 million copies, this is accompanied with a large portfolio that expresses they have an experience of what they know what they are doing.

- An advantage distributing to Time Inc. would be that they publish magazines such as ‘NME’ who is of a completely different genre to my music magazine. This means that they would therefore would have an appreciate spot. Time Inc. is also very prestigious and respected commenting the public trust within their magazines. This would create good publicity for my magazine.

- A strong disadvantage which could be that they are know for their rock music magazines so if they have a sudden change within their genes it may create a negative effect.

- My music magazine cost was initially the same as the time Inc. magazine. This means that if my price range is similar then the readers will not be put off the idea that my magazine isn't expensive helps to appeal to a younger audience as they do not have a large disposable income like adults.

- To appeal to my readers I am offering many things such as free sets of tickets and an insight to the charts.
