When your brothers and sisters have problems they need to talk about, you should be in that top 5 l ist

of people they want to talk too. You dont have to be their personal psychologist but you do need to at

least be a shoulder to lean on if they need it.

I have also had the responsibility as Chieftain to assist in two heathen funerals. The first funeral wasfor

a good friend, founder and Chieftain of SjueakeldaFrith Kindred; Charles Joseph Pierce Jr. The second

one was at the request of the family of a young 19 year old heathen named Justin Dawson. I never gotto meet him personally but I can only hope to have as many people at my funeral as he did, it was truly

inspiring.

The Chieftain can be the spiritual leader, but he/she doesnt have to be. There are plenty of kindreds I

have seen that have both spiritual leaders and chieftains.

As a Chieftain, you have the responsibility to educate those in your kindred. If your kindred has a

Gothi,Gythia, Harugari, or other spiritual leader then they will be better able to respond to questions of

faith but that doesnt mean youre off the hook it just means you have help. I personally do as much as I

can to help educate folk who are new to heathenry. We all were new to the faith at one time and many

of us wish we had someone to help us out in those early days, so I try to be that person when I am able.

Lastly let restate these are my ideas and my opinions and I may add to this article as time goes on.
