Founded in 1997 on the initiative of Dublin City
Council with support from the European Commission
Acts as the sustainable energy adviser to Dublin City
Council and since Jan 2009 to Fingal and South
Dublin County Councils
Ireland’s fuel dependency
Ireland’s import dependency in 2008 was 89%
and 88% in 2009
Forecasts to 2020 highlight that Ireland’s
energy security is declining and it is
expected to continue to do so due to the
diminishing supplies of oil and gas in the
EU and OECD
Why run an energy awareness campaign?
