What is the Identity of MGMT?

After looking at MGMT’s website it was instantly clear that they fulfilled the ‘psychedelic pop’ image by which Wikipedia described the bands genre. The site initially presents a interactive site featuring a colourful map, and then directs you to a similarly bright webpage. The bright colours here therefore emphasis the psychedelic image which they intend to have. Also, another way in which this is achieved is due to the fan art used for the site background, which presents the idea of fan involvement and love for their fans. This idea is similar to a ‘hippie’ “peace and love” attitude and a 60’s feel which is really when psychedelic style was most popular.

Those were some shots from their video ‘Kids’ which is their most successful song. The video suggests various ideas such as sometimes the people we trust are monsters, and various theological ideas, which is also suggested through quotes shown at the beginning of the video. Also, the band are not actually in the video much which creates an image of modesty, however when they do appear they are presented as heroes. Therefore, I would say that through their deep lyrics, minimal appearance and also heroic impression they are presenting themselves as deep, modest and heroes. Also, their video continues the psychedelic themes of their website through their dress sense and the cartoon sequence at the end.
