What do we mean by “tax fairness?”

“Unfair” can be easy to see.

It’s an unfair advantage over local retailers.

It’s unfair when local merchants must charge sales tax, while Internet competitors like

Amazon.com and eBay don’t

It’s unfair when profitable giant corporations pay $0 in Wisconsin income tax.

Some large corporations which pay zero state income tax:

• General Electric

• Associated Bank

• Kimberly-Clark

It’s unfair when wealthy retirees enjoyhigh-rise lakefront views…

…but pay zero property tax because their building is classed “non-profit.”

We all have to pay some taxes. Sure, there’s plenty of debate about how big

government should be, how high taxes should be.
