The method they developed is today known as ‘Shamanism’ Shamanism is a spiritual and healing practise that works closely with nature and the spirit world. At its core is the basic principle that everything is connected, is energy and has spirit. The term ‘Shamanism’ comes from the Siberian tribal word for it’s practitioners: ‘Shaman’. Shaman’s are individuals who jour- ney beyond the matrix of ordinary reality to contact their guides in the spirit world, seeking healing, knowledge & power to help individual’s & the community. Most commonly they do this by entering an altered state of consciousness, using rhythmic drumming or other monotonous percussion sounds like rattling or chanting. History and archaeology reveal that Shamanism has been prac- tised in indigenous cultures around the world for at least 40,000 years and although the knowledge and techniques are ancient, it is always growing and evolving with our cultures and needs. Anyone can use Shamanic techniques in their lives regardless of race or religion. It is a way of life, a way of being that helps open our awareness to the divine and spiritual essence of our- selves and the world around us . For some it is the next step to help them on their way, for others it becomes a life path. For its practitioners, it is a “path of the heart”. Over tens of thousands of years our ancestors all over the world discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing and problem solving. Shaman’s are individuals who jour-ney beyond the matrix of ordinary reality to contact their guides in the spirit world, seeking healing, knowledge & power to help individual’s & the community. Most commonly they do this by entering an altered state of consciousness, using rhythmic drumming or other monotonous percussion sounds like rattling or chanting. History and archaeology reveal that Shamanism has been prac-

tised in indigenous cultures around the world for at least 40,000

years and although the knowledge and techniques are ancient, it

is always growing and evolving with our cultures and needs.

Anyone can use Shamanic techniques in their lives regardless of

race or religion. It is a way of life, a way of being that helps

open our awareness to the divine and spiritual essence of our-

selves and the world around us . For some it is the next step to

help them on their way, for others it becomes a life path. For its

practitioners, it is a “path of the heart”. It teaches us skills for

living and helps us reconnect to ourselves, each other, the Earth

& the great mystery that we’re all part of.

Shamanic healing is a spiritual healing. A gentle and powerful way of bringing balance and change. From the shamanic perspective, everything is en-ergy. Ailments, aches & pains, illnesses and diseases also have an energy, an energy that is not in harmony with our wellbeing. In a place of pow-erful balanced energy, a dis-torted unbalanced energy arises.

Shamans look at the spiritual and energetic forms of these ailments . They journey to the other worlds on behalf of their clients, seeking help from the spirits to clear & re-move blocked or misplaced energy, and also help with recovering and restoring the balance. Our bodies have a remarkable ability to heal. To maximize and aid this heal-ing, our vital energy flow, commonly known as chi, prana or vigour, is encouraged by unrestricted balanced path-ways. Shamanic healing can compliment and works well with other therapies and medicines, particularly when try-ing to find the root cause of illnesses and improving en-ergy levels. Changes and healings made in the spiritual and energetic levels manifest later on the physical plane

From a Shamanic perspective, life is a continuum which does

not end at the moment of death. One of the most important

traditional roles of the Shaman is to assist people who are

either dying or the spirits of those who have died make the

transition into the places one goes to after death. This is

called Psychopomp work. Death and dying are often taboo

subjects in our society whereas shamanic people embrace the

positive healing benefits of making death your ally and

teacher. Facing death as part of life leads to a rebirth of a

new whole self .

Shamanic Healing Soul Retrieval

Soul Retrieval is an important part of Shamanic healing work. Soul loss can occur when a person undergoes a trau-matic event in their lives such as the loss of a loved one, accident or injury, separation, abuse or any other event that the person is shocked or hurt by. At the time of the trauma, part of the persons soul sometimes leaves the body as a sur-vival mechanism to prevent it being devastated by the shock of the negative experience. Most soul parts return spontane-ously when the event is over, or as we heal while other parts need support to return as it fears that it is not safe to do so. Soul Retrieval is a healing process of returning vital parts of ourselves that have gone to be in a place of safety in the spirit world. It has always been the role of the Shaman to journey into the other worlds and track down where the soul part fled to and gently return it to the soul of the client. Anytime someone says, “I have never been the same since,” after a certain event, and they don’t mean this in a good way, soul loss has probably occurred. Some of the symptoms of soul loss are feeling spaced out, chronic depression, chronic illness and disassociation where a person does not feel fully in his or her body, alive and fully engaged in life. Addictions can also be a sign of soul loss as we seek external sources to fill up empty spaces inside us. The effect of having a soul retrieval vary from person to person. Some people feel that they are more grounded in their body and feel more solid. For some, the effects can be too subtle to notice a change until further work to integrate the soul part is done.

Death & Beyond

Shamanic Counselling differs from most types of counsel-ling in that the main relationship is not with the counsellor but with the spirits. We go directly to the spirits for help, they offer wisdom and advice on many issues like ;

♦ Personal healing ♦ Life changes ♦ Empowerment ♦ Decision making ♦ Problem solving ♦ Relationships ♦ Health / Illness ♦ Bereavement ♦ Emotional issues ♦ Spiritual development

In a typical session, we first explore what it is you wish help, guidance and healing for, then we formulate together a clear intention with which to go on a Shamanic journey. This means listening via headphones to a regular drum beat for the duration of the journey (approx 30 mins). The journey is spoken aloud and recorded on tape. After returning from the journey we listen together to the recording. This is ex-tremely helpful in order to process and bring home often very deep teachings. “Who am I, who am I at my core, at my foundation,

who am I when I shed my roles, when I dis-identify

from all that’s fleeting and transient in my life, who am

I when I go beyond my self-description, who am I in

essence, rather than form”
