Transcript of What is Geocaching? History Makes a Left Turn!...What is Geocaching? Geocaching is an outdoor...
What is Geocaching?Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity wherein participants (cachers) hide and seek containers (geocaches, caches) using a GPS or other mobile device. A GeoTour is a specific collection of caches.
History Makes a Left Turn!“History Makes a Left Turn” (HMLT) is a collection of eight (8) geocaches spread throughout Tuscarawas County Ohio. These cache sites were chosen for their historic sigificance to our area’s rich transportation history. You’ll walk near the remants of the Ohio & Erie Canal at one cache site and at another you’ll see a carefully restored steam engine that carried troops from coast-to-coast during WW2. All of our caches begin with “HMLT”. Find them all and you could earn a trackable geocoin. (Update: We have coins for 2019!)
How Do I Play? The first thing you should do is visit < www.geocaching.com >. You’ll find detailed and helpful instructions to get you started. Register a free account to search for active caches here in Tuscarawas County. Download the cache’s coordinates to your GPS or mobile device. When you find a cache, log your name in the logbook inside the cache and copy the answer from the cache onto your passport. If you find all seven (7) caches and complete your passport, bring it to the Tuscarawas CVB (124 E High AVE, New Philadelphia OH 44663) or the Holiday Inn Express (145 Bluebell DR SW, New Philadelphia OH 44663) to collect your geocoin. There is one coin per passport per person.
