Origin of BMX
BMX Stands for Bicycle Motocross and was started in the 1960’s by children in California who didn’t have the means to buy a motobike, but wanted to race like Motocross. By the 1970’s manufactures were producing bikes specifically for BMX and the first professional race was held in 1975.
Freestyle BMX
As the sport of BMX grew there began an underground movement of BMX Freestyle as riders entered skate parks and copy trick of skateboarders. In the early 1980’s the first Freestyle BMX competitions were organised and the sport began to explode across the world. Now BMX Freestyle offers a professional career for and riders that have ‘what it takes’.
VERT
Vert (vertical) BMX is when BMXers perform tricks on a vertical ramp like a Half Pipe.
STREET
Street BMX is when BMXers peform tricks on obstacles that are on the street such as banks, rails, ledges and stairs.
FLATLAND
Flatland BMX is when BMXers perform tricks on a flat piece of concrete manuvering the bike in amazing ways. The bikes are slightly different as well.
