Therefore, design work begins by understanding the customer, inventing new processes and products in response to the customer, and being innovative in the ways that new processes and products are installed for the customer.

Planning vs Designing

• Start by identifying what to teach and when

• Focuses on organization of activities and students.

• Covers all content

• Teacher is responsible for covering /presenting material

• Teacher provides instruction

• ID unique student abilities, challenges, and motives first.

• Focuses on getting clear about what students need to learn.

• Select important content that is difficult to teach and learn.

• Teacher is responsible for student demonstration of intended learning

• Teacher provides experiences

Page 8: What is design

Poor design requires that a teacher spends time on the back end in the form of re-teaching, remediation, tutoring, and retesting.

Page 9: What is design

Good design requires that a teacher spends time on the front end appealing to students needs, values, and motives which will increase the probability that students will learn what is intended.
