What is CWIC Start? What is ECHO?

The CEOS WGISS Integrated Catalog (CWIC) is being developed by the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Working Group on Information System and Services (WGISS) to provide a framework that allows for easier search and access of Earth Observation data via partnering of CEOS agency data systems. For these partnering agencies, CWIC provides a single point of search and access. CWIC is envisioned to be a community catalog for satellite data that will implement the CEOS data systems harmonization results and provide search and access to satellite data within partner systems.

CWIC Start is a prototype web-based client to CWIC that links rich dataset metadata from the GCMD to the data holdings accessible from CWIC allowing users to discover data in an intuitive manner. CWIC Start has been developed by NASA's ECHO team, utilizing

techniques and experience gained in producing NASA's state of the art Earth Science discovery tool, Reverb.

The Earth Observing System (EOS) Clearinghouse (ECHO) is a data and service metadata registry built by NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS). ECHO is NASA’s middleware layer between Earth science data and users via a service-oriented architecture . ECHO acts as an order broker between end users and NASA Data Centers who provide metadata for their data holdings and other Earth science-related data holdings. NASA makes data available to CWIC clients by connecting to the CWIC middleware via ECHO.

Concept

• One stop portal for science users

• Streamline search and access to EO data

• Access to previously disparate data sources via a single point of entry

• Low cost entry for data partners wishing to leverage CWIC

• Built on top of OGC CSWs• GCMD/IDN + CWIC

provides cohesion between dataset and granule inventories
