A compound sentence consists of two or more main clauses, each of which can stand on

its own. Spotty loves Bruiser, and Bruiser loves Spotty.

Spotty loves Bruiser; they are never apart.

The clauses in a compound sentence are joined with a comma and coordinating conjunction or with a semicolon.
