What have we learnt about technologies from
constructing this project?
Blog and Websites used
Blog: WixBefore doing AS Media I had never used a blog website or blogged before, so starting blogging was completely new for me, meaning I had had to learn to use the site. When first using Wix I struggled with making new pages, documents, and uploading prezi, youtube videos, photopeach and slideshare, however after watching tutorials, playing around with the website and getting help from peers, I managed to successfully create my blog.Although I have problems with my work being lost on the blog, error messages and the site freezing, I like the way I can upload my work on the site with the freedom of moving the text, images etc. where ever I want.I also like the way I can publish the work and save it separately, so I can save my work when I’m part way through, then when I’m completely finished I can publish it.
How did I overcome problems with uploading different types of media?
Prezi:This was the media type I especially had a problem with, however after getting help from a peer managed to easily upload it onto my blog:
First I opened the prezi I want to upload in a new tab.
Secondly, press the embedded button
Click the copy button to copy the HTML code for your blog.
Then, go onto your blog, go to the side bar and click ‘Add’ then ‘Apps’ and click on ‘HTML’.
Click on the box that appears and click ‘settings’
Change the HTML setting from ‘Website address’ to ‘HTML code’.
Paste the code copied from the prezi website into the box
Click ‘update’ below the HTML code and your prezi will appear in the box you put on the blog
I like using Prezi as a type of media to present my work as it engages the audience more by using different backgrounds, transitions and ways of
presenting text that makes it more interesting for the audience to watch.
I had never used prezi before, however after making a free account it was extremely easy to use and had no problems in making the presentations.
It also allows you to upload pictures, text and graphs etc.
The audience can move the bubble text boxes at their own speed and when they are done reading,
rather than being a timed presentation. However, it would be better if you could upload
videos onto a prezi.
Slideshare
Slideshare was another website that I had never used before but again was simple enough to
use. It isn’t as much of a presentation software as Prezi, but is a way of making PowerPoint slide shows accessible to put onto the blog via the
internet. As with Prezi, Slideshare allows you to move the
slides along at your own pace, giving you enough time to read the slides.
Slideshare is similarly uploaded onto the blog as Prezi.
By copying the embedded code of the Slideshareslide show, you can paste it into a HTML box on
the blog.
Youtube
I was already quite familiar with using Youtube to upload videos, however I had never then uploaded
the videos from Youtube to a blog site before. To upload a video to Youtube:
1) Log in2) Click ‘upload’
3) Select the video you want to upload
To upload the Youtube video onto my blog:1) Click ‘Add’
2) ‘Media’3) ‘Video’
4) Then paste the URL of the Youtube video into the box below
I like using youtube videos as you can use both your own and others content to upload onto
your blog. You can also use a combination of videos,
images, texts and music to present your work. You can include voice overs or videos of yourself
talking or demonstrating to explain your presentation.
Photopeach
I am very new to photopeach as I had never used it before or come across before, however found it very useful in creating an interesting
way to present information. The site allows you to upload pictures and
compress them into an automatic slideshow, and either upload or use music off Youtube to
use as backing music. The site zooms in and out of the pictures,
making it more interesting for the viewer and allows you to set the timings on when the slides change, to give enough time to read the slides.
After making a free account it was easy to upload the pictures you want, put them in the
right order and edit it to your desire.
As with the other websites it was easy to upload the finished slideshow to the blog by pasting the
embedded code into a HTML code reader.
