WHAT HAVE I LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

The process of constructing-

The most important factor that was always on my mind was the professional look. Throughout I had to make decisions on the mass variety of options when making the magazine.

Things like font, colours, shapes and layouts where some examples that ‘In design’ let me play with. There were very few limitations when making the magazine and found the software never ending with options.

Functions I used.Their was a wide range of fonts to choose

from. Even when choosing the font . You could put effects, change the letter spacing and

even the width and height of the letters. Plus you can mess with the colour outline and the thickness of it as well as the general colour

font.

I created the text box to include the text. it allowed me to change the background of just the box. And also change the border colour, shape and again allowed me too put effects on it if I so wished.

The main image was cropped from it’s background via Photoshop. The cut out could then be placed into In

design. After doing this you can again do almost anything with it: Changing

the shape of the image, including effects on it and placing it, I could

also rotate the image.

The shapes is a little restricted but still allows you to do complex shapes (if you know how) You have to draw a square

initially and then convert it to a different shape. My spiky shape was made

irregular by changing the amount of spikes and the length and the way they

are positioned.

Overlapping is pretty simple on the software. You can just select the

image or text and choose, ‘send to back’ or ‘ send to

front.’

The importance of this technology in my product-

The overall quality of photo shop and In Design is the professional look. You can really copy or stamp your mark on the product your designing too.

The font and the effects you can add make the title stand out and in my case makes it stick out as it is (via the questionnaire) one of the most important things to consider on the magazine.

The orientation and overlapping helps with my busy or messy look I'm going for. Things like rotation help this too.

Its also worth mentioning the effects in photo shop. The main one I used where the black and white effect and then adjusting the settings to make it either more sharp or blurred. This was key as I needed the black and white look to achieve my wants of the target audience.

Importance of the software to the publishing sector-

Software’s like the two I have mentioned help and give a big aid to the publishing companies of today.

Things like the work lines where it shows the lines of the page and everything you've included. This helps show how big the frames are and how they are overlapping.

The functions like the one mentioned above gives a huge benefit of saving time which is key for publishers. Weekly magazines like Kerrang for example can’t spend to much time on the design due to the deadlines being short. Therefore with the right knowledge they can produce a professional looking product in less time.
