Runoff and Ground Water
The Water Cycle
1. EvaporationMost evaporation takes place over the ocean. some water evaporates from lakes and rivers. Plants release water to the air through transpiration.
2. CondensationClouds form as the water vapor cools.
3. PrecipitationWhen the water droplets become heavy enough, they fall back to Earth as precipitation. Precipitation is the source of all fresh water on and below Earth's surface. the water cycle renews the usable supply of fresh water on Earth. Millions of years, the total amount of water on Earth has remained fairly constant. in the world as a whole, the rates of evaporation and precipitation are balanced.
4. Runoff and Ground WaterSome water runs off along the ground surface. Some water soaks into the ground and becomes groundwater. Groundwater flows underground and eventually may flow into a body of water.
