Member Comments: First Project (Nov. 2013) Pre-project details: We worked withRyan. We found Affordable's pricing to be very competitive and better than most. But, by far, we found Affordable's customer service and responsiveness to be the best (which continued throughout the entire project). Ryan took the time to promptly answer all my questions by phone and email (after our initial meeting) and was very easy going. Scheduling: Scheduling went as planned for the most part. There was one minor delay noted under work. Joe Clemensarranged. Joe does a fantastic job making sure everything runs smoothly and as scheduled. Joe is also very knowledgeable about the products. Work: We were nervous about having a sprinkler system put in because our lawn/grass was in decent shape and we did not want it ruined during install. Affordable did a great job being careful to minimize impact to lawn. Heavy machinery is used to install piping so you will know that work was done, but in was hardly noticeable in some areas and more noticeable in others. By spring following the install, we did not notice anything. Andy B. stopped by to make sure the work went smoothly and assisted with work. Like Ryan and Joe, Andy is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and friendly. There was one minor hiccup in work. We had a submeter scheduled for install, but the plumber did not have all the right parts. So, Andy and crew came back on a Saturday to complete the work. This delay was not a big deal to us because we were not watering grass anyone at this point in mid-November 2013. So, if you can, waiting to do a fall install, when you don't need to run the system right away, can minimize any work delays. Second Project (July 2014): Pre-project details: We worked withAndy on redesign and new zones to address landscaping that we had installed after the sprinkler system. Andy, once again, was great. He met with our landscape project manager to understand the project and what reconfigured design needed to be done for a sprinkler system. Pricing was again very good. Ryan. They would probably say that the customer should book earlier, but for those of us who over seeds their lawn in the Fall, we usually can't be sure when we will stop needing the sprinkler system until late October. By then, the company typically cannot fit you in until late November or early December. The crazy thing is that I see them in my neighborhood weeks before they get to me. One would think that hitting all the houses in the same area would be an efficient approach. If they are that busy, then perhaps they should add extra crews in the Fall instead of having people need to book a month in advance. Their work was so good I had a hard time seeing where they had worked in the yard to lay irrigation piping for the sprinklers. Furthermore, when they installed the LED lights and control boxes in my flowerbeds I was not able to tell where they had worked. All the mulch was put back in place neatly. They were quiet when they worked inside and used high-‐grade copper piping instead of PVC inside the house for the water line. We selected them from great reviews from an online publication about 10 years ago when we lived in our prior house. They installed the irrigation system and lighting. Initially we were only going to do the irrigation system, but Reed had given us s great price if we did both at the same time. And I was very glad that we had agreed to do the lighting in addition to the irrigation. We had recently completed a major landscaping project in our back yard (new patio, new landscaping) and by adding the landscape lighting, it allowed us to enjoy the beauty of our backyard even when we were inside late in the evenings. it really "brought the outside in". We recently moved to a new construction house in Arlington county, and when time came to install the irrigation and lighting, we called Affordable right away because we had such a good experience the last time. As long as we were home during the summer we could hand water. But now retired, we are travelling much of the summer and hiring someone to water our yard several times a week was getting expensive, not to mention we were losing some plantings to the heat. We called Affordable Lawn for an estimate after seeing a $500 coupon to install a new system. The owner came out and drew up the plan and estimate and then quickly thereafter emailed the official contract. It took us several weeks to respond and so our installation date was set in December. I explained to Joe that we'd be travelling and he was able to squeeze us in mid November. In all communications the staff and crew were polite, prompt, helpful. The walkthrough was thorough and answered all our questions. Our neighbors couldn't believe how well they hid the pipelines and how little evidence there was of installation. They will return in the spring to turn the system on and fine tune the sprayers. Thus far we've been extremely pleased and will write again if anything changes with the spring setup. I ended up contracting them to install an 8 zone sprinkler system (no lighting). Member Comments: Overall the process went well, with only a minor hiccup during the process. Alvaro came out to my property when I was at work to give me an estimate. Unfortunately the company had the wrong e-‐mail address for me, so I had to follow up with them after a week of not receiving it. After deciding to go ahead with the system, Joe worked with me to get the appropriate documents completed for my HOA. Once approved, I scheduled an install date. Since I would not going to be home the day of the install, I ended up meeting Alvaro on the weekend so that he could walk me through the zones they planned to install, along with where the control panel would go. On the install day, Affordable had some problems finding the water line from the street despite it being marked on the other side of the sidewalk. Overall, the disturbance to the yard wasn't too severe, but I'll probably need to lay new sod in a few locations in the spring since I had the system installed late in the year without giving the yard any time to recover. The other minor issue is that Affordable has you schedule your own inspection with the county once the install is complete. This was another day I didn't realize I would need to take off, as the inspector needed to access the house to inspect the plumbing (which passed with no issues).
