What are the strength and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies

Strength of my product

Strengths of my magazine front cover:

The title of my magazine is ‘education’ , this is relevant as the genre is school and the target audience is teenagers. The mise-en-scene of my magazine, I thought was ok as I used a good combination of colour. For my main image I used direct address as it catches the audience’s attention more than it would if I didn't. The font on my front cover is very consistent and used throughout on the front page it is easy to read which makes the target audience not feel intimidated.

Strength of the Contents:

The title of my contents page is easy to read and clear, this catches the readers attention and makes it very clear to the audience of what information they might find out, the title has a big font size to attract the reader more. The text and picture is sectioned into three columns and is spaced out fairly and professionally, the images on my contents page are relevant as they explain the stories inside the article, they are also matched to the genre of the magazine. The pictures have numbers on them so you know which page in the magazine to turn too and find out more about the story which make it easier for the audience to use. The colour scheme is consistent throughout and is also consistent with the front cover.

Weakness of my product

Weaknesses of my front cover:

Even though I feel like I have a few strong points in my magazine, There are a lot of things I would like to improve to make it look and be more like a magazine by enhancing it to make it more enjoyable to read. I could do this by adding ‘BUZZ’ words on my front cover and have smaller images as well as a main image on my front cover add more writing to make it look more interesting to read. These would help attract my target audience to want to buy the product. I should of used a subheading to explain more about the magazine and what it would be about, by doing this it would grab the readers attention.

Weakness of my contents:

Although my contents page includes a lot of writing I should of included two or three more articles as it now makes my product look small and has no information inside it also makes it look boring. I should of also included category heading as it will make it easier for the target audience to understand what they want to know and where about in the magazine it is. Moreover I didn't include any credits for the photographs I used which makes the contents page look plain and unprofessional.

Strength of my technologies:

Although I have used all of the media technologies to the best of my ability and tried to make the best of all the facilities that where given to me, I found that quark was easier to use and was more understandable on what I needed to do, the layout made my contents page look professional and not plain. Photoshop made my photographs and images look better and more clear than they normally would. My product would be nothing without the pictures so the digital camera was an essential tool in the task I was given to do.

Weakness of my technologies:

To improve the task I need to understand how to work the technologies more and spend more time on them to work out all the buttons I need to use. I need to learn how to re-size my pictures properly and make them the right size that is needed for my home and contents page. I can do this by practising in spare time and concentrating more in lessons I need to know my faults so i can work on them to get the best mark to my ability.
