Maximum excavator bucket capacity is determined by the angle of repose of the material (how it heaps in the bucket). For

excavator buckets, bucket capacity is determined by SAEJ 296 or Australian Standard AS2954.6-1998, both of which specify a 1:1 angle of repose.

Using KGA Wear Packages on your excavator buckets provides additional structural integrity to the base buckets, for extended life, increased performance and reduced downtime.

Komatsu offers a full range of KGA Wear Packages, offering varying levels of wear protection to suit different applications. From working in tough and abrasive materials in rock excavation, to extremely tough quarrying and high production rock excavation.

All add-on wear package components are replaceable, adding considerably to the life of your KGA base bucket.

The base GP bucket is fitted with Hensley GET, outer wear plates and Komatsu side cutter for long life in general applications.

The same base bucket can be reinforced with a wear package of your choice, tailored to your application using the items listed in the table. This enables attachment lead time to be reduced even for special applications.

The KGA Multi Quick Hitch uses a lightweight low stress cast design for greater strength and improved machine bucket breakout and lift capacity.

The one-piece casting multi hitch body eliminates weak points from fabricated joints to enhance durability in high stress applications such as hammer or demolition work.

The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in figures 1 and 2 shows the low stress design under load. The uniform investment casting for both the multi hitch body and latch mechanism shows a high resistance to deformation under extreme load and fatigue compared with a conventional fabricated hitch.

Many years of testing under proven experience and under extreme load and application, have ensured the KGA multi hitch will withstand the toughest working environments.

This provides better reliability, durability and longevity.

SAFE & FAST ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM KGA CONFORMANCE TO AUSTRALIAN QUICK HITCH STANDARD AS4772-2008

The red secondary locking tongue clearly indicates to the operator that the attachment is engaged and locked for use.

The operator must intentionally disengage the rear latch completely for the secondary locking tongue to unlock. The secondary lock can hold the full weight of the bucket safely if rear latch is not engaged.

Due to the secure engagement and locking mechanism any space between the bucket pick-up faces does not require additional spaces or shims.

The quick hitch will not slide along the pins even under severe machine applications.

The KGA Multi Quick Hitch allows the operator to change the attachment in seconds without moving from the cabin seat. This equates to improved productivity and safety. The high pressure hydraulic cylinder is designed to match machine operating pressures for low cost long life operation.

The KGA quick hitch design has undergone independent analysis to confirm satisfaction to the Australian Standard AS4772-2008 Earth-Moving Machinery – Quick hitches for excavators and backhoe loaders. The results are summarised below, confirming that the KGA quick hitch comprehensively satisfies the requirements of the Australian Standard AS4772-2008.

Safety System as Intended;

Must ensure retention of the attachment to the Quick Hitch in the event of failure of the primary retention system ‘by mechanical and positive means.

The latch once engaged is retained

The primary system was hydraulic pressure between two pins on the attachment

The latch is mechanical and the slide is a positive action

Means of verifying the engagement of the safety system from the operators position.

The latch once engaged is retained and clearly visible from the cabin

The safety system needs to be intentionally disengaged for the attachment to be disconnected from the quick hitch.

To disengage the latch the primary hydraulics must be fully extended by intentionally releasing the attachment

The safety system must not be used as the primary retention system and must be in addition to the primary latching system.

The safety system is not used as the primary retention system

In the event of failure of the primary system the operator must be able to detect that a failure has occurred.

In the event of failure the attachment will rotate around the pin held by the latch, but will not release

The installation of the Quick Hitch must not compromise the integrity of the safety systems of the host machine.

The KGA hitch uses the manufacturer’s conventional quick hitch hydraulics and pins therefore not compromising the machine safety systems

It does not rely on stored energy for the safety system

It does not rely on a manual fitted safety pin to operate
