West Region Newsletter, 39, February 2015 Area Group News: Clyde and South Glasgow have requested Talent Max follow-up sessions and it is hoped that these will be delivered during February or March. Congratulations to both Dumfries & Galloway and Lanarkshire as both groups were successful with their applications to the 2015 Cricket Scotland Community Coaching Fund. Club News: Ramsay Allan has been in contact with all clubs regarding the draws for the National Youth Cups (both the Scottish Cups and the NatWest ECB Qualifying Cups.) If anyone has not received the draws, please get in contact with me – or visit the West Junior Cricket website. If your Club wishes to arrange a meeting with me (about Club Development), please ask someone to get in contact and provide me with a couple of dates, times and a venue that would suit your Club. Coaching News: The ECB Certificate in Coaching Children (UKCC Level 2) course began on Saturday 31 st January – with 14 candidates, from 9 different Clubs, attending the first of four training days. Cricket Scotland is still able to offer support to individual Clubs by running a Kwik Cricket Game Course – and, if there is sufficient interest, an ICC Introduction to Cricket course can be run on a local basis too. Jewson CricketForce: Cricket Scotland are pleased to announce the launch of Jewson CricketForce. For more information about this exciting club-based initiative, please read the information page attached to this Newsletter. Tapeball: Tapeball is now up and running in the West Region. Games take place every Saturday evening in the Hutchesons’ Grammar School Sports Hall. Anyone wishing more details should contact me directly.

The Cricket Society of Scotland: The Cricket Society of Scotland Annual Dinner will take place at Titwood (Clydesdale CC) on

Monday 9th

March. The guest speaker will be the former Yorkshire and England

wicketkeeper/batsman Richard Blakey.

WDCU News: There will be a WDCU Special General Meeting (SGM) on Monday 16th February 2015 at Poloc CC,

Shawholm at 8pm. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on the proposal submitted by GHK CC and

Hillhead CC regarding their proposal for league structure. Any Club wishing more information about the

SGM should contact Mark Colman, the WDCU Executive Secretary ([email protected]).

WDJCU News: The WDJCU has released the league, and cup, fixtures for 2015. These can be found on the West Junior

Cricket website (http://www.westjuniorcricket.com/), along with a list of the WDJCU Kwik Cricket

Festivals for 2015.

West Regional Development Centre (WRDC): The majority of the Cricket Scotland U15 Inter-Regional fixtures and the WRDC U14 Challenge

Series fixtures have now been confirmed. As soon as the final list of fixtures is confirmed they will

be released.

Women’s Cricket News: Cricket Scotland Women’s Cricket Manager, Kari Carswell, has asked me to pass on the following message:

“Following on from the great success of the National Girls Kwik Cricket Festival in 2014, I’m

pleased to share with you dates and venues for not one but 2 festivals in 2015!” (Please find details

attached to the end of this Newsletter.)

The west region Girls’ Development Centre continues to run too. Anyone wishing further details about

Women’s Cricket in Scotland should contact Kari Carswell ([email protected]) directly.

Other News: Mike Stanger, Chairman of QTV Sports, has asked that I pass on details of “The Long Hop: Down Under”.

This is a series of six live programmes previewing each of Scotland’s games during the eagerly anticipated

2015 Cricket World Cup. Please find full details at the end of this Newsletter.

Cricket Scotland are pleased to announce the launch of Jewson CricketForce

The Jewson CricketForce Scheme is a club-based initiative aimed at rejuvenating Scotland`s

cricketing facilities by encouraging cricket supporters, local communities, and their friends

and families to volunteer to undertake renovations at their local cricket club in the lead up to

the season. The scheme follows in the footsteps of a similar scheme run by the ECB that has

been hugely successful in promoting the profile of club cricket.

We are hoping that as many cricket clubs sign up to the event and use it as a great opportunity to prepare

their facilities and bring together their membership and communities for the start of the season.

We are targeting the last weekend of March – 27th

, 28th

, 29th

– for the national `CricketForce` weekend

where clubs participate and Cricket Scotland will be publicising, and supporting, the event nationwide. In

fact, some clubs will be chosen for extra volunteering support with national team players coming to your

club to muck in and help out for the day!
