Step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious con-

tact with God as we understood Him praying only for the knowledge of His will

for us and the power to carry that out.

In the first chapter of the Twelve and Twelve it talks about some of the difficulties

some of us A.A.’s have with this step, but in past steps where we learn to accept a

power greater than ourselves; we begin self examination in Step 4 and 5 and realize

we need help from a Higher Power. This can come with daily simple prayer and med-

ication. Step 11 has a prayer by a non-alcoholic, it states some thoughts we can

think about.

Eleventh Step Prayer

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace!

That where there is hatred, I may bring love

That there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness

That were there is discord, I may bring harmony

That where there is error, I may bring truth

That where there is doubt, I may bring faith

That where there is despair, I may bring hope

That where there are shadows, I may bring light

That where there is sadness, I may bring joy

Lord grant that I may seek rather

To comfort than to be comforted

To understand, then to be understood

To love, than to be loved.

For

It is by self-forgetting that one finds, It is by forgiving that one is forgiven, It is by

dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.

We cannot be perfect, all humans make mistakes, but we can though prayer and

meditation, we can improve.

In Love and Service, Nancy L.

The determination of Our Founders

A year and six months later they had succeed-

ed with seven more.

AA pg. 159

If it had not been for the fierce determination

of our founders, AA would have quickly faded

as so many other so-called good causes. I

look at the hundreds of meetings weekly in the

city where I live and I know AA is available 24

hours a day. If I had had to hang on with noth-

ing but hope and a desire not to drink, experi-

encing rejection, wherever I went, I would

have sought the easier softer way and re-

turned to my previous way of life.
