Students will create their own art using clay, paint, print-making and colored pencil.
8113FA – Art Upgraded
Students will have an opportunity to create art with a design focus; such as animation, jewelry making, fashion, architecture and sculpture.

BUSINESS/COMPUTER EDUCATION 7107PA – Computers for the 21st Century Students will expand their creative computer abilities in keyboarding, presentations, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, Internet research and safety, Movie Maker and podcasting.

Financial Fitness will explore the world of earnings and taxes, budgeting, banking, credit, saving and investing, and insurance.

Students will investigate current and future career opportunities using advertisements, social media, websites, blogs, and news media. Interest inventories and aptitude tests will help you develop a personalized, self-awareness of career opportunities. You will practice job search and interviewing skills, complete resumes, job applications, W-2s and other employment forms. Through hands on activities you will learn about digital
safety, cyber bullying, creative credit and copyright, web apps, and how to locate and evaluate resources.
Careers and Information Literacy must be taken some time during your 7th or 8th grade year.

Units of study will include recycling/repurposing/repairing, clothing selection and care, designing your dream room and a variety of self-paced sewing projects.

This course is designed to help new “chefs” master the basic essentials of food preparation.

7106PA Inventions and Innovations Students are introduced to and use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives. Students use state of the art 3D printers and power tools to actually “build what they design”! ***Prerequisite class for Automation and Robotics and Space and Aeronautics!
7141PA Automation and Robotics They learn about electrical and mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation and computer control systems.
7150PA Space and Aeronautics Students explore the science behind aeronautics and use their knowledge to design, build and test airfoils, airplanes, rockets and more.

**This course can be repeated for a second semester to create a daily yearlong choral experience.
8413FA Creative Jam: Music Today, Tomorrow and Beyond
Students will be involved in listening, analyzing, creating/composing and improvising music, as well as playing a variety of instruments and singing.
**This course can be repeated and can be taken during the same school year as choir.

Reading
2150LA Reading Workshop
Placement in this supplemental reading course (sixth through eighth grade) is determined by reading test scores and teacher recommendation. It is designed to teach literacy strategies to students who struggle with aspects of reading.
If a student is recommended to take support classes in reading or math, this will replace some of their elective choices.

Speech and Theatre
8212FA Theatrical Arts
The topics explored include storytelling, prose, poetry, duet acting, and other events. Additional topics are: theatre etiquette, pantomime, voice, characterization, movement, script reading, improvisation, technical theatre, theatre history.
8213FA Performing Arts: The Show Must Go On!
This class includes acting, radio theatre, stage combat, play reading, reader’s theatre, voice production, theatre history, technical theater and group
presentations. Students will be required to participate in an outside-of-school (main stage) production.
**This course can be repeated for a second semester and year to year.
8214FA Speech/Debate
This daily, semester course introduces students to many elements of public speaking. Students will research, organize, and present various types of speeches.

Special Notes: Elective/Class conflicts may occur. When courses are only offered one or two periods of the day, a student may have to choose between one or more courses. *Please make sure to give alternates on enrollment forms. All core classes taught at West Middle School are year long.
If you have questions about a math placement, world language placement, or honors by contract placement, these need to be addressed with the respective teacher as soon as possible! A teacher is always the best person to answer any questions you may have regarding a class placement. All elective change requests must be submitted to the guidance office by FRIDAY, MAY 9th! NO EXCEPTIONS! **Please do not request a specific teacher, hour, or semester, as we will be unable to meet these requests.

Enrollment Timeline
Enrollment forms are due by Friday, March 7th to Mrs. Rohrs or Mr. Popa! (or we get to pick your classes! )
Verifications of courses requested will be sent home with students no later than the last week of April. They will also be posted on Home Access until Friday, May 9th.
No requests for changes will be accepted after
FRIDAY, May 9th!
