BRUSHSTROKES
Wow! The snow is gone! Time to start working in the garden, going to the lake with kids and grandkids, picnics, graduations, weddings, and reunions! I hope you and your family have a wonderful time! Don't forget to paint! Find the piece and pleasure that you can only get by creating something new, and fun. Lots of 'time off' this summer. The Last national convention has come and gone, the last Michigan Mixer, the last Hoot. Times are changing, painting is more popular than ever! The time has come to Brainstorm. What would you like to change? How can we help you become a better painter, or have more fun with the group? Invite your friends, invite family! Almost everyone has done a 'Sip and Paint' or 'Wine and Canvas' and had fun. Let them know they are welcome to come to chapter, and paint with NEW friends they haven't met yet! As for us, invite anyone who really wants to learn to 'Paint' to some really special events that we have coming up this year. Do you realize that we have 3 'Big Brushes' still coming up this year!!! Don't miss this opportunity! Do you have any idea how much it would cost to travel to a convention to paint with these Ladies?????? What a great way to get a start in painting for a newbie! Christmas in July! Let's make it fun and special! We are very privileged to have a wonderful teacher who has taught internationally, and is highly sought after all over the US. Her name is Judy Diephouse. The piece she is teaching is her last convention design. She is using our chapter as a 'Warm Up' class for the piece that is featured in Painting Palooza this year. September: This is a special opportunity, and not to be missed. Sherry Nelson is coming to Grand Rapids. I took one of my very first classes from Sherry, before I ever joined WMDA. I won a company painting competition with the piece! It still hangs in the headquarters of Harris Corporation, in Melborne, Florida. There were more than 2,000 entries that year! What a way to get started! What I am trying to convey, is this is an experience that anyone who wants to learn to paint, and paint well should consider! There are 3 days, and the projects will build on what you learned the day before. October: Jeanne Collick is teaching a charming gourd. (continued left column)

Absolutely the FINAL CALL
Mystery wood Project 2019
Put an unpainted project from your stash
(we all have at least one) in a brown bag.
Inside the bag put your name and colors
you like that will go with your house. Tape,
tie or staple the bag shut.
At the July 27 meeting, exchange your bag
for one that is not yours.
Open the new bag at home and have fun
painting something on the mystery piece.
Return the painted piece nicely wrapped
with a card on it for the recipient at our
December 7, 2019 Christmas Luncheon. That gives you almost a year to paint it.
Oh happy day! You get a painted piece from a Chapter painting friend AND your
stash is reduced by one piece!

Dear Painting Friends, Just a few notes for our upcoming Christmas in July celebration with Judy Diephouse and her 'Happy Holiday Canvas' class this Saturday the 27th of July. The class will NOT be at Hobby Lobby, where we generally hold our monthly meetings. The class WILL be at Judy's church, Rockford Reformed Church, 4890 Eleven Mile Road, Rockford, Michigan 49341. Park by the first door facing Eleven Mile, Enter the narthex and go toward the LEFT set of stairways going down stairs. We will in in the Assembly Hall at the bottom of the stairs. Class will start at 9:30 a.m. We will be celebrating with a delicious Pot Luck Luncheon, so please bring a favorite dish to pass. We have 17 ladies attending, and Kathy Blough has offered to bring sloppy joes or pulled pork sandwiches. Plates, cups, silverware and napkins will be provided as well as iced tea and coffee. Show and tell, as well as raffle items are ALWAYS appreciated. I do think our little 'Santa's helper' Judy has a surprise or two up her sleeve too! Kathy will also have boards for our upcoming Sherry Nelson seminar available for purchase. We will be discussing the surface prep instructions, maybe even setting up a 'prep party'. I have offered to prep the boards as needed for seminar guests as well. Looking forward to a lovely class!! Lynne Deptula Questions??? Please call me at 616-940-1899
