MN 2160 1 WEST AUSTRALIAN DIETETIC ASSOCIATION The West Australian Dietetic Association was formed on the 15 th November 1950 when Shirley Hogan, the then dietitian at Royal Perth Hospital, called a meeting of dietitians working in Western Australia to discuss the formation of a professional association. The primary aim of the association was the planning of dietetic training and the establishment of training standards in dietetics in Western Australia. Other objectives included the promotion of the study of dietetics, improvement of working conditions for dietitians and the establishment of good working relationships with other allied health fields. In 1961 the association became involved in community nutrition and formed the School Canteen and TV subcommittees. Through these and other activities the association helped to improve the profile of dietetics as a career in Western Australia and helped promote nutritional awareness in the general community. In 1976 the President of the West Australian Dietetic Association, Mrs Shirley Langelaan (nee Hogan) was a signatory at the inaugural meeting of a national association (Australian Association of Dietitians). All state associations, including the West Australian Dietetic Association, automatically became national members. In 1983 the West Australian Dietetic Association formally became amalgamated with the Australian Association of Dietitians, establishing a united and coordinated national body. From this time onward the association was known as the Dietitians Association of Australia WA Branch.
