Facebook Live. Simply sign on to
Facebook and he will be live around noon

page. You can always watch it back after it
has ended.
We will continue to collect canned food for Open Door Ministries until the end of January 2021. There is a barrel right inside the main entrance.
Worship service will be live
on Wesley’s Facebook page
at each Sunday at 10 a.m.

We are looking for volunteers for the warming shelter. I realize that some may not be able to help due to COVID 19 concerns, and I totally understand. We will be operating the shelter on evenings when temperature is 15 degrees windchill with no moisture, or 30 degrees with moisture. It will operate from 7 pm to 7 am on nights that meet the above. Please call Vicki at the church office if you have questions or are interested in helping.

By the time you are reading this week’s newsletter, we will have crossed the halfway point of Advent. The celebration of Christmas is just around the corner, and it is hard to believe. Advent, like almost everything else, is different in 2020. Usually this time is full of special events like children’s programs and special musical concerts. There are times throughout this season that I enjoy the crowds that are brought together during this season. This year, I grieve the loss of these special times. What does Advent mean without all of the special events that prepare us for Christmas? Actually, the meaning goes unchanged. We are contemplating the incarnation of God. The name Jesus literally means to deliver; to rescue. The angel tells Joseph in Matthew chapter 1 that the child in Mary’s womb will be named Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. The prophet Isaiah is quoted in Matthew to point to the fact that Jesus will be called Emmanuel, which means “God with us.”
Jesus not only comes to save us from sin (all the things in our lives that keep us from loving God and loving one another), but Jesus is truly human and truly divine. Jesus is God in human flesh. The first chapter of John, “And the Word became flesh and lived among us” (John 1:14). Jesus is God with us. Jesus redeems us, instructs us, suffers and dies for us. Jesus is resurrected to redeem us, so we might have eternal life. We are celebrating that Jesus Christ came into the world to redeem the world and is coming back to finish the job. Advent is a celebration where we realize that we are waiting for Jesus and celebrating that he is also in our midst. The meaning of Advent has not changed at all and our need for Jesus Christ to come and be with us is needed more than ever. I hope you know that Jesus Christ is with you and that’s God has bridged all the gaps that separate you from God’s love and mercy. The world’s a mess and cries out for hope. The meaning of Advent has not changed and I hope we all find strength in remembering that.

Thank you to the wonderful group of
folks that helped clean up the leaves
in the church yard on Saturday
morning, December 5. We were able
to blow, rake, and bag 25 large bags
of leaves from the church yard. The
wonderful turn out made the job go
quickly. The work began at 9 a.m.
and was wrapping up at 10:30 a.m.
Special thanks to Nick Smith for
hauling off the leaves. There appear
to be some remaining leaves. A
group will be gathering to shake
those leaves off the trees next
Saturday (just kidding).
Prayer Shawls are available. Contact the church office for details.
Don’t forget that Sunday School
is happening on Zoom every
Sunday morning. The Younger
kids are meeting at 11:15 a.m.
with Ellen Cable and Lorri
Saulbeamer. The Older
Elementary are meeting at 11:45
a.m. with Anne Homan. If you
would like the code for the zoom
meeting please, email Sarah
