Nominations open for Arvid Carlsson Award by Sahlgrenska Science Park
For the second consecutive year, to pay tribute to innovation, knowledge and
skills, along with good entrepreneurship, Sahlgrenska Science Park is
awarding a prize in Nobel Prize winner Arvid Carlsson's name. We encourage
you to submit your nominations for someone who is making a difference by
10 September. The prize will be awarded on September 27 when the 13th
Park Annual event will be held in Gothenburg on the theme "A brand new
world."
Neoss och Insert Coin are on for Park Annual on September 27
The program for the Park Annual event is growing and taking shape! Artificial
Intelligence is one of key themes. Adam Palmquist, Process Manager at the gaming
studio, Insert Coin, will kick off the afternoon session with Machine Learning and
Rehabilitation. So, what’s behind that title? "I will explain how game mechanics,
adaptive systems and motivational design can change our habit building behaviours
and enable us to shift bad habits towards better ones," says Adam.
We are also pleased that Fredrik Engman, one of the founders of Neoss, is confirmed
as a speaker at the event. Neoss is continuing the proud tradition in the dental
industry in Gothenburg and has established itself globally.
We continue to track the prograss of AI companies
One of the life science companies in West Sweden working with artificial
intelligence (AI) is Mentice. The company is working with endovascular
simulation solutions. Now, you can learn more about their AI challenges. It’s
Captario’s turn in our next newsletter.
Save the date – 20 September – for a matchmaking event in AI. We are
hosting this event to satisfy the need that has emerged in conjunction with

It’s also clear that Chalmers will open the Centre for Artifical Intelligence i januari
2019 - – an initiative aimed at raising research, education and innovation within AI.
In Norway, it takes 5 minutes to get innovations to the clinic. How are we doing?
Welcome to Lunchlådan (the Lunch Box event), an interactive, moderator-led
seminar, where we discuss and challenge how we can introduce innovations
in routine healthcare quicker and faster. Based on discussions from previous
seminars, we have invited Björn Klem from Oslo Cancer Cluster. Find out how
they managed to speed up the process and join the discussion on how we
can take advantage of these experiences.
DIGITAL HEALTH
Aweria is part of Vinnova´s investment in AI for better health
Sahlgrenska Science Park company, Aweria, is part of an important AI
collaboration project to identify sepsis. The project has been awarded a
grant of SEK 3.7 million from Vinnova. The project is designed to develop a
new AI decision support system to identify sepsis in the acute care setting.
Collaboration partners are: PreHospital ICT Arena (PICTA), Region Västra
Götaland, Karolinska Institutet, Chalmers and Borås University. We recently
participated in an interesting PICTA-organised workshop on the use of AI in
healthcare, where we participated.
First patient enters TummyLab´s digital helth program
Sahlgrenska Science Park company, TummyLab, is now launching a digital
health program for gastrointestinal disorders and IBS. The first patient has
already entered the program on referral. Similar to Aweria (see article above),
TummyLab is part of HealthTech Nordic, a digital Health community with
more than 150 companies in the Nordic region.

Collaboration funding to MedTech West
MedTech West (a member of the West Sweden collaboration group for life science)
has, via the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket), been
granted SEK 10 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the
"Enhanced Collaboration Environments under MedTech West" project. MedTech West
is also a regional node for Medtech4Health (see new call below).

Medtech4Health grants can be applied for by medtech develoment projects where at
least two partners from different sectors (e.g. healthcare, academia, industry) are
collaborating.
