Course Goals/ Objectives Duringthiscourse,youwill  Exploreandlearntheoriesofcomposing/designingandtherhetoricalprinciples thatguidethecomposinganddesigningoftextsfordifferentenvironments(inprint anddigitalmedia)  Employthesetheoriesandprinciplestocreateworksappropriatetovariousmedia, includingprint,screen,andnetwork  Developametacognitiveawarenessofrhetoricalprinciplesthatenablesyouto understandhowtheseworkscanbere-purposedfornewenvironments  Writewithandagainststylesconventionalizedwithindifferentgenres Course Requirements ThisisoneofthreecorecoursesfortheEditing,Writing,andMediaEnglishmajor,andas such,ithelpsprovideafoundationforyourmajor.Todevelopthisfoundation,youwill readagoodbit,andyouwillpracticeandreflectevenmore.Youwilldevelop  praxispracticeinformedbytheory.Youwillreadandcreatemanykindsoftextsandthen considerhowtheyarealikeandhowtheyaredifferent.Theclasswillallowyoutoexplore manyofyourownrelevantinterestsandtoengagewithothersinsomeofthose explorations. Materials needed ThemajorityofthetextswereadwillbefoundinthecourselibraryofourBlackboardsite. Youwillneedtopurchaseanotebooktoserveasyourreading/analysisjournal. Finally,youmusthaveaccesstoalaptopandbringittoclasswithyou.

Course DescriptionTheprimarypurposeofWritingandEditinginPrintandOnlineincludes(1)helping

studentsunderstandprinciplesofcomposing,especiallyastheycompareacrossdifferent

withmultiplekindsoftexts—readingsome,writingsome,talkingaboutsome,creatingdigitalformsofsome.Inalltheseprocesses,we’llbedevelopingalanguage thatwecanuse

todescribethosetextsandinteractionsandtodescribewhathappenstothemandtous

whenwedothiswork.Ifwesucceedintheseefforts,you'llfindthatyouarecreatingandreadingtextsdifferently;thatyouaremuchmoreinformedabouthowotherswillread

Course RequirementsThisisoneofthreecorecoursesfortheEditing,Writing,andMediaEnglishmajor,andas

such,ithelpsprovideafoundationforyourmajor.Todevelopthisfoundation,youwill

readagoodbit,andyouwillpracticeandreflectevenmore.Youwilldevelop praxis—practiceinformedbytheory.Youwillreadandcreatemanykindsoftextsandthen

considerhowtheyarealikeandhowtheyaredifferent.Theclasswillallowyoutoexplore

manyofyourownrelevantinterestsandtoengagewithothersinsomeofthoseexplorations.
