Wonderful Happenings at Wenty!
Kindergarten excursion to the Farm!
It was terrific to see all the smiles on the faces of the Kindergarten students as they got ready to board the
bus for a day at the farm on Monday. This is a wonderful opportunity in bringing all their learning in the
classroom to fruition!

Forward planning for 2020 and class placement for 2020
We are busily planning in preparation for next year. In order to allow us to plan as effectively as possible, we
would like those families who know that they won’t be returning to the school next year, to confirm these
details as soon as possible. I have included a slip at the end of the newsletter for you to complete and send
back to the front office if this scenario applies to you. Thank you for your anticipated co-operation with this
matter.
Class placement for 2020 is a complex task that staff invest a lot of time and effort. Parents are welcome to
provide written information to Mrs Lockrey (The Principal) by Friday November 1, 2019 if there are specific
needs you think should be taken into consideration about your child /children when considering class
placements in 2020. Any information which is delivered to Mrs Lockrey after this date will unfortunately not be
able to be considered in class placements for 2020. Consideration to social and emotional needs, academic
ability and behaviour can be considered, but no guarantees can be made as staff make determinations which
are in the best interest of all attempting to achieve a balance in each class. It is a difficult task which teachers
way up very carefully. Parent requests for changes of their child’s class will not be considered in 2020 as this
is a school management decision and we commit considerable time in formulating the structure for the
following year.

Students: Yubi (3W) and Samanvi (3W)
Title: Light in the Night
Our artwork was inspired by Paul Klee's Castle and Sun.
We used watercolour pencils, paints and sharpies to create our collaborative
artwork.
We used a variety of different lines, shapes, patterns and colour to create our
own design.
Student: Neel Patel (5/6G)
Title: Sport Culture
My artwork is inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop culture art. My artwork is based
on my pop culture interests in 2019. I used pencil, watercolour paint and
markers to create this artwork.
Students: Sriharini (3W), Sedaf (3M) and Zara (3W)
Title: Cute Emojis
This artwork was inspired by Andy Warhol's pop art. We drew some
of our favourite foods and then designed our own emojis. We used a
range of bright colours. We used textas, black marker and
watercolour paints.
IBIS Hotel Foyer art
The Ibis budget hotel in Wentworthville requested some student artwork to brighten up
their foyer. We took the opportunity to select some artworks from both the Art group
and from the Education week art gallery. The art group created some artworks inspired
by Gustav Klimt’s ‘Tree of Life’ and Picasso’s cubist portraits. The Education Week art
display was inspired by Aboriginal art. On the following pages are some photos of the artworks that were
passed on to the Ibis Hotel. We look forward to seeing the artworks framed and displayed at the hotel.

Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a selective high school in 2021
Dear Parent/Carer
Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials.
Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to
apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address)
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from late-September 2019 at https://
education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7.
The application website opens at that link on 8 October 2019 and closes at 10pm on 11 November 2019.
You must apply before the closing date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library.
If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after
8 October 2019.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Remember: the tear-off slip below is NOT an application and the school cannot apply on your behalf.
Yours sincerely
Principal
Cut along the dotted line and return the completed slip below to this school by next Friday.

Just a reminder to register for the Sentral Parent Portal so you can receive
updates about events at our school. Every family has a special code to register.
If you have misplaced your code please see the office or Ms Di Chio so we can
facilitate this information to be forwarded to you.
The Sentral Parent Portal aims to provide parents with access to
communication features about daily notices and newsfeeds about school
events, send and receive absence notifications and access to our term
calendar of school events. Over the year other features will also be added to the portal and families will be
notified of updates via the daily notices on the newsfeed. When your child is absent you will automatically
be sent a notification to provide a response for the absence. Absences can be explained via the Parent
Portal app or desktop site.
I am confident that you will see the benefits of your registration immediately and be part of our journey in
providing this facility to you. As we progress this initiative, I am confident that the Parent Portal will become
more and more significant in your day to day management of your child\'s enrolment at our school.
Should you experience difficulties please do not hesitate to contact Ms Di Chio for assistance. I also look
forward to hearing from you about your experience with our Sentral Parent Portal, and any feedback will be
gratefully received with a view to adding further functionality and improvement.
