Thank you to everyone who has been using Class Dojo and the school website in order to access work; we genuinely appreciate how big a challenge this has been. It has, however, been lovely to see all of your photographs and videos of work uploaded to Class Dojo. We love to see what you are all doing and class teachers will continue to respond to each and every one of you! As you are aware, parents evening was cancelled this term, but we are still keen to provide you with an update of your child's progress up to the point of the 20th March, when we partially closed. Therefore, class teachers have been working hard to produce an updated mid-year report for your child. These will be emailed to you over the coming weeks, but all reports should have been emailed out by the 24 th April at the latest. If you have not received your childs report by this date, then please contact your childs class teacher. Please note the reports will be sent out a class at a time. Again, I would like to reiterate how deeply grateful I am to our motivated and committed staff, who are doing so much towards playing our part to support the vital work needed to tackle COVID-19. As you may know, the government wants people to stay at home as much as possible, therefore, our team are working on a rota system within school to support and care for our key-worker children. When not in school, staff are working from home. I can assure you that our teachers are working just as diligently as always, only without you there and, for most of them, whilst teaching their own children at the same time! Additionally, please do ensure that as families, you take the normal two-week Easter break from academic study. Class Dojo will not be checked regularly during this time by staff as they also need some time to rest. In staff news, after Easter, we will be welcoming Mrs Mary Wooding to our team. Mrs Wooding will take the lead of our pastoral provision. Sadly, Mrs Wishart will be leaving us at the end of the term, as she and her family are re-locating. I would like to thank her for her dedicated approach to supporting our children and wish her the best of luck for the future. Finally, please keep washing those hands and keep yourself and those around you safe from these pesky germs! We miss you all and look forward to a return to normality. Please take care and keep smiling! Reception Hello Everyone! Hope you are staying safe! Staying at home has not stopped Reception from carrying on their fantastic learning. We have been continuing to practise our information text writing – this time we looked at the mythical creature unicorns. The children did some wonderful writing about unicorns as well as making their own information texts. One of our fantastic children even wrote one about her brother! The children have also been consolidating their number knowledge by playing lots of number games with numbers to 20. The children also followed a ‘story map’ to bake some cookies! They all looked delicious! Well done Elmers and Gruffalos – we are very proud of you for demonstrating determination and resilience whilst learning from home!

Pre-School

It has been great to receive some lovely pictures of our Pre-School children having fun with various activities at home.

The Joe Wicks workout has proved to be a popular way to keep active, as well as helping out in the garden and enjoying dough disco.

The children have also been using their creative skills with construction and making hands in order to paint nails.

We look forward to seeing more of your pictures - please keep them coming!

Year 1 What a crazy 2 weeks we have all had! We have been so impressed with everyone’s support and effort and have been delighted to see all the home learning that is being done in Year One. We have been setting an English, Phonics, Maths and Topic/Practical activity each day to consolidate the children’s learning from the previous terms. In English, we have been looking at some of the common exception words and children have been practicing reading and writing these and putting them into their own sentences. We have also been looking at full stops and capital letters which the children know are very important when writing sentences. In Phonics, we have been recapping on some of the sounds that have been taught and looking at their alternatives. In Maths we have been looking at one more and one less, greater than, less than and equal to. We have also provided a variety of maths mats that have lots of fun activities including adding, subtracting, counting, shapes and money. Our latest topic has been focussing on our Science topic of materials. Children have enjoyed going on a material hunt, using toys to see what they are made of and sorting objects and materials into their properties. Also, we are still receiving pictures of the children’s runner bean plants and it’s amazing to see how much they have grown! We have loved seeing the extra things that you have been getting up to as well; baking, art and

crafts, PE with Joe Wicks workouts and gardening! Thank you for your continuous support!

Year 2

Just before we finished school for a while, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Emma at the National Trust. She told us all about the Wellington Monument and why it was built.

Year 2 have been busy at home making their models of the Wellington Monument that we had planned on completing in school. It’s been lovely to receive the photos and to see the huge variety of imaginative methods the children have used.

Some Year 2s have also been making and colouring rainbows to put in their windows. What a fabulous idea.

Thank you for all the photos that you are posting to keep us up to date with what your children have been doing outside of school.

Year 3

Wow, what a brilliant first week of home learning! The children have settled in quickly to the changes and are doing an amazing job. The focus in Maths continues to be fractions, the children have been completing written activities as well as baking cakes. The have used their knowledge to work out a half and a quarter of the main ingredients, showing their understanding of both. The cakes look truly yummy as well! In English the children have continued with their learning of a non-chronological report and have produced some amazing work, well done children! Ancient Egyptians is still the focus in topic. The children have been doing their own research as well as referring to their prior knowledge to create a colourful/ informative leaflet. The main areas of research have been around hieroglyphics, Egyptian Gods, Tutankhamun, pyramids and the afterlife. French has had the children singing and dancing this week in the classic head, shoulders, knees and toes song. Keep uploading the videos, they’re great! Children have also been getting creative using recyclable materials. We have received pictures of 3D pyramids, Easter eggs and Elmer the Elephant! Keep the creativity going children, they’re all fabulous! As for PE, well Jo Wicks has absolutely exhausted Mr M and myself, hope you are all doing better than us? You’re are all doing great!

Year 4 A big thank you to everyone that has sent in videos, photos and worksheets since we started our home learning. It is lovely to still feel connected to our wonderful classes. We have been really impressed with the fantastic characters that you created based on a sixth golden ticket winner in Charlie and the Chocolate factory as well as the brilliant hygiene posters. We especially loved Finley's NHS hero character, what a brilliant idea. Keep up the good work everyone we are very proud of all the effort you are putting into your school work.

Year 6 Year 6 have had an exciting start to their Home Learning with a number of Junior Master Chef's in the making! The children have been enjoying getting to grips with Jo Wicks exhilarating daily work-outs and produced some excellent work in Maths, English (Promotional Leaflets on Edinburgh zoo), Art and Science. We have been privileged to receive a variety of work which the children have chosen to do independently to include a book review from Ava and a Coat of Arms from Safka. There has also been lots of gardening, slime making, room tidying and many more exciting activities. We have received so many fantastic photos and have only been able to share a small selection with you and look forward to receiving many more. Stay safe everyone. Keep us updated with what you are doing via Class Dojo, we would love to hear.
