Good afternoon to everyone and thank you for turning out to support our lads as they continue in their bid to claim a place in the promotion race as we give a warm welcome to days opponents from Rochdale Mayfield. The lads from Rochdale gave us a stern test at their place and we were made to work hard and dug deep to earn the victory. At the moment their is a breakaway group of five teams which are chasing the promotion places so we must get back to winning our home games to give ourselves a chance. Our last home outing did not go as planned and in fairness we deserved to get beat but last weekend got back to winning ways with a narrow victory at Stanley Raiders. Although it was lacklustre performance we still managed to come away with the points. One thing that must infuriate Scott and the team is not having a settled team each week and as we progress through the most popular summer months this looks to contin-ue so a big thank you must go to the young lads that have made themselves available for both the open age sides. Finally myself and the club would like to congratulate the following; firstly to Tom Hill who gets married this weekend, we all hope it goes smoothly for him and his future wife, secondly to young Tim Stubbs who has signed for the York Knights and became the youngest player to turn out for them when he made his debut in last Fridays defeat to Featherstone Rovers and finally to young Josh Embleton, who plays for the U12`s and was chosen represent his school and city to be part of the guard of honour as the participating nations entered the Olympic stadium at the opening ceremony .Its a terrific honour and for the young Acorn and one that will live long in the memory.

Teen ace Harry Bromwich stars in loss for youthful York Acorn ‘A’ A YOUNG and inexperienced York Acorn ARLC ‘A’ crashed to a 54-24 defeat as they ran out of steam against Dewsbury Celtic ‘A’ in the York-shire Men’s League. The sides were level at 12-12 at half-time, but the more experienced home side showed their class in the second half. The Blue and Golds’ try scorers were 16-year-old Harry Bromwich, on his debut, Thomas Mackley, who crossed twice, and Ben Fairburn. Steve Wal-dron kicked four goals. The stand-out players in a gutsy performance were Bromwich, fellow 16-year-old Josh Potter, Carl Loft and Lee Frank.

The Blue and Gold’s in Action
York Acorn cling on for key Stanley Rangers win Saturday 4th August 2012 YORK Acorn ARLC got back to winning ways in National Conference League division one with an unconvincing 24-22 victory at Stanley Rangers. The Blue and Golds led by ten points at half-time but were left hanging on at the end as their hosts came back into the game. Rangers opened the scoring on 11 minutes when winger Joel Marsh crossed in the corner, but Acorn hit back on 14 minutes when slack Stanley defence allowed Steve Doswell to go over. Anthony Chilton goaled. When third-placed Acorn dropped the ball in the tackle on 21 minutes, Joe Rogers went over and stand-off Danny Grice goaled. A sharp break down the right on 27 minutes saw Joe Burns go over for a good try, and again Chilton goaled. Acorn stretched the lead further on 31 minutes when a smart Michael Embleton off-load sent Leigh Rientoul in and Chilton con-verted. Stanley started strongly in the second period and Jacky Hogan wriggled over from close range for Grice to goal. On 63 minutes man of the match Adam Endersby scored and Chilton goaled, but Marsh got his second for Rangers and Grice converted to set up a tense finale.

National Conference League Division One
Whose here to take on the Blue and Golds
Mayfield ARLFC were formed in 1958 and took their name from the Mayfield Hotel on Albert Royds Street, Rochdale where they were based. Rugby League was booming at this time and the Mayfield team soon established themselves as a ‘no holds barred’ set up.
After several years, with a forward looking committee in charge, the ‘Field’ relo-cated tothe Old Bridge Inn, Oldham Road, using Balderstone Park and Springhill as their playing areas. This move prompted an unprecedented period of domination. Challenge Cup games against Salford and Hunslet followed and Club President Barry Edwards became BARLA’s first ever international Captain. Mayfield won all trophy’s available and won the Pennine League 7 years in suc-cession – resulting in the trophy being awarded to them for good! Mayfield again moved to bigger and better facilities by entering into a ground share with the Castleton Moor cricket club, at Keswick Street and entered ama-teur games flagship National Conference League. Hot and cold years followed with the now named Rochale Mayfield Challenging for honours in the top divi-sion and cups and struggling against relegation in the bottom leagues. Through-out they developed players for Rochdale Hornets, other local professional sides and kept the flag flying for Rochdale in the Conference league. Recent success saw Rochdale Mayfield promoted from division 2 under the guidance of Shaun Gartland, a move to our new ground at the Mayfield Sports Centre in 2006, and then to the division 1 Championship under Matt Calland and Steve Gartland, who also took them to a creditable play-off semi final berth.
Welcome down to Thanet Road for this afternoon's clash with Rochdale Mayfield the away fixture was an extremely tight affair when we clinched victory in the last minute with a long range penalty and quite easily on an another day the result could have gone the other way. I don't see it been much different today and another close encounter is on the cards our visitors have been going well recently in the league and after a couple of indifferent performances in recent weeks from ourselves we will need to improve today to get the win. Yet again there will be several changes from last week's side as we wish Tom Hill all the best on his wedding today this provides opportunities for other play-ers and must be viewed as a positive for the lads getting a chance to play today, Enjoy the game Scott
