thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory Anthem - Final (part one) from Third Symphony, Opus 28 Louis Vierne (1870-1937)This work, the fifth and final movement of a larger work, was chosen to reflect the final week of Christ’s life. It is broken between the Offertory and Postlude.

*Offertory Response Hymn AMAZING GRACELest we be fooled because our hearts have surged with passing praise, remind us, God, as this week starts where Christ has fixed his gaze. (text: Hymn 200, stanza 4)

*Affirmation of Faith from A Declaration of Faith, PCUSAJesus Christ stands at the center of the biblical record. The Bible is the account of God’s word and action in history. It tells how the Lord has moved with Israel and the church towards the kingdom of God - the just and loving rule over all.It is the story of the one God, who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That story is still unfolding and in faith we make it our own.It forms our memory and our hope.It tells us who we are and what we are to do.To retell it is to declare what we believe.Jesus’ involvement in the human condition is God’s involvement. His compassion for all kinds of people is God’s compassion. His demand for justice, truth, and faithfulness is God’s demand. His willingness to suffer rejection is God’s willingness.Jesus’ love for the very people who reject him is God’s love.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Charge and Benediction

*Choral Response - A Lamb Goes Uncomplaining Forth Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)A Lamb goes uncomplaining forth, the guilt of all now bearing; ‘tis laden with the sins of earth, none else the burden sharing. It goes its way, grows weak and faint, to slaughter led without complaint, a spotless life to offer; bears shame and stripes, and wounds and death, anguish and mockery, and says, “Willing all this I suffer.”

*Chiming of the Trinity The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity.

Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.

*Postlude - Final (part two) from Third Symphony, Opus 28 Louis Vierne (1870-1937)This work, broken between the Offertory and Postlude, was chosen to reflect the final week of Christ’s life. It contains musical elements that express tension, ambiguity, and a long delayed resolution.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

Greeting Kirsten HomdromOne: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. All: And also with you. One: Let us prepare for worship.

Preparation for WorshipGod of all, you gave your only-begotten Son to take the form of a servant and to be obedient even to death on a cross. Give us the same mind that was in Christ Jesus, that, sharing in his humility, we may come to be with him in his glory, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Prelude - Intrada on Ellacombe Robert J. Powell (b. 1932)

Christian Welcome and Announcements Robert GallowayPlease pass the Friendship Register to your neighbor and include all requested information.

Introit - Ride On, King Jesus arr. Moses Hogan (1957-2003)Ride on, King Jesus, ride on, the conquerin’ king. Oh, Ride on, King Jesus, ride on. No man can a-hinder thee. I was but young when I begun. But now my race is almost done. King Jesus rides a milk white horse. The river of Jordan he did cross. He’s the King and the Lord of all. He’s the first and the last. He’s the Lord of Lords. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Call to Worship from Psalm 118One: Let the people say, “Hosanna!” Let the people cry out to God, “save us!”All: Open the gates, for the Lord is near. Christ has come to enter our hearts and change our lives. One: Let us give thanks to God, for God has given us the gift of salvation. All: It is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes! On this Sunday of Palms and Passion let us celebrate and remember the good deeds of our loving Savior. One: This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

*Processional Hymn 197 - Hosanna, Loud Hosanna ELLACOMBE

*Call to Confession

*Prayer of ConfessionMost merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you and others in thought, word, and deed. We remember long ago when the people waved their branches and shouted their praises. But, just like us, their zeal for faith gave way to the dark desires for power and prestige which corrupted their hearts. Just like them, we long for cheap grace instead of the transformative wonder of your love. You ask us for our whole selves; but we give only the minimum. Forgive our sin and call us repeatedly back to you; in the name of our Savior, Jesus the Christ. Amen.
