24 February 2020 Week 7 – Term 1 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome to Week 7. Last week we celebrated our first positive behaviour for learning reward day for 2020. Our students have worked hard to fill up our bee hive with buzzies, demonstrating the school values of Active Learning, Respect and Safety. Mrs Bell organised an amazing reward. Our students participated in a workshop facilitated by “Reverse Garbage”. The students enjoyed working together to create play areas with objects that we would otherwise throw away. The workshop inspired all of us to live more creatively, more sustainably and more meaningfully. The students had a ball and were thrilled when told that we could keep the items to use in our playground. Many thanks to Mrs Bell for organising this wonderful experience for our kids. I am sure that we will see some more wonderful sustainability initiatives coming to Primbee. Watch this space! A shout out to Mrs De-Nobrega and Mrs Berehowyj for organising the Lego competition. The students were delighted to enter their creations into the competition and it was a highlight of the week to go and look at the displays. We were thrilled to welcome so many parents who also enjoyed the experience. Today each student will be presented with a certificate and winners will take home amazing Lego prizes. Many thanks to Parents and Community members who have expressed interest in being on our “School Sustainability Committee” to plan and create our community vegetable garden and chicken coup. We are thrilled to receive the $15,000 grant to create this initiative. We will organise our first meeting this week. Have a wonderful week everyone. Mrs Sharon Rigg Principal

Week 7 – Term 1

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome to Week 7.

ILLNESS AND INFECTION CONTROL – FLU SYMPTOMS

The Department of Education is working with the Ministry of Health to monitor and respond to the unfolding international novel coronavirus situation. As per usual guidance, staff and children who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve. In accordance with national public health guidelines, only those who are close contacts (eg: live in the same household) of confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus infection should be excluded from school for a period of 14 days since last contact with the case. NSW Health has processes in place to identify any close contacts of cases confirmed in Australia. Advice about not attending school would be provided to these close contacts. Please see the following links for more information. VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS

Many thanks to those families who have paid their voluntary school contributions. The funds will be used to replace our classroom furniture with new furniture to promote active learning.

TELL THEM FROM ME

In Term 1 2020, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Please see the following information.

If you do not want your child to participate in the student feedback survey, please sign the attached form and return it to the school by 16 March 2020. Paper copies are available at the Office.

Dear Parents and Carers

In Term 1 2020, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed online and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys.

Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a unique username and password. Where fewer than five students respond to a question, the results will be suppressed. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.

As well as schools getting student feedback, the Department of Education, through the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE), has access to data from across NSW and is running a research project to look at state-wide patterns of student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. The research is looking at how these things impact on student outcomes, including academic performance. Individual students will not be identified in any CESE publications, and all information will be handled in accordance with the relevant privacy legislation. Students’ personal information will not be disclosed by the department to any other person or body other than as required by law.

This research will help schools in New South Wales to better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will also help teachers and principals discuss what works to improve student outcomes.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped.

If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to the school by 16 March 2020.

More information about the survey and the research is available in English on the CESE website: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
