Line Judges (LJ)

S. P. L. A. T. :1. Server faults - Players and Server must be within the lines at time of service contact

2. Pancake - hand under the ball before ball touches the floor

3. Lines (the side line and service line on your side of the court - If any part of the ball “hits” the line it is in; if not, it is out)

4. Antenna violations - Ball must pass COMPLETELY inside the antennae -(possible pursuit)

5. Touches - Watch the hands, not the ball (watch for indicators) – hair does not count as a touch

During timeouts - LJs stand at the midpoint of their end line.

R2 (Second Referee)

1. MUST attend a EVR sponsored ref/scorer clinic2. Must be registered player/adult/coach3. Responsible for net faults (“interferes with

play” or “in the act of playing the ball”4. Responsible for centerline violations (foot on

or above the centerline is not a fault, body can be on the opponent’s side of the court)

5. Manages substitutions (more than one = same as high school)

6. Manages time-outs (30-seconds)7. Maintains the tempo

1. Mimics the signals of the R1 (NEVER signal beckon for serve & net serve.

2. Ensures line ups are correct at start of set.3. Works with scorer and libero tracker to give and receive

lineups.4. Transition to the side opposite the ball during play.

Always attempt to be on the blockers side of the net.5.5. GOOD, STRONG, BLASTGOOD, STRONG, BLAST of the whistle is important

(keep whistle in your mouth while the ball is in play).6. Bring your own whistle.

• Signal & then Point to bench

• End of time out - signal time out and then show 2 fingers to the coach & to the R1

• If the other team subs right afterwards - again whistle, signal & wave player onto the court

• Make sure the scorer has finished the 3 steps BEFOE giving the game signal back to the R1

Team Delay Sanctions 1.First team delay is a warning (i.e. delay in substitution(s), jewelry, repeating an improper request).

2.Any further delay sanctions are a “loss of rally.”

3.A teams first improper request of a match is rejected/assessed without any further action.

4.All delay sanctions are recorded on the scoresheet

Cards are used to control the match (remain in force for the entire match). If you don’t have cards you can administer sanctions simply by verbalizing the sanction (i.e. Yellow card to player #4 for unsportsmanlike conduct - Individual player receiving the sanction must acknowledge the sanction)

USAV 4.3.3.1 (ADD)A) Uniform numbers must be clearly visible and centered (both horizontally and vertically) on the player’s chest and upper back.

A) Each jersey must use the same color and number height for all players, except for the Libero jersey, which may have different color and size numbers. Provided it still meets the minimum criteria stated in

USAV 4.3.3.2.C) Color combinations such as purple/black, dark green/black, navy/black, white/light yellow or navy/maroon are NOT distinctive enough to comply with the rules

USAV 7.3.5.4 (ADD) “Where a player is found to be on court but she is

not registered on the score sheet list of players, the opponent’s points remain valid, and in addition they gain a point and service. The team at fault will lose all points and/or sets (0:25, if necessary) gained from the moment the non-registered player entered the court, and will have to submit a revised line-up sheet and send a new registered player inton the court, in the position of the non-registered player.”

USAV 19.1.1 (ADD) “Each team has the right to designate from

the list of players on the scoresheet up to two specialist defensive players: Liberos per match or the team may choose to designate one Libero per set.”

A coach may choose zero or one libero at the beginning of the match. Each set may then have a different libero designated. If two are designated, they are locked for the match.

ADD USAV 11.2.2Encroachment into the opponent’s court with any part(s) of the body is permitted, provided some part of the body remains either on in contact with or directly above the centerline, and there is no interference with opponents. In addition, completely crossing the centerline with the foot, feet or hands, or encroachment with other body parts, must not present a safety hazard to opponents.
