Homefun• Homefun

– Reading minutes/Fluency Practice– Math Practice– Spelling Practice– Unfinished Work– Due at 8:00 a.m. the next day– Checked, but not used as a grade – Different Beliefs – Intended Purpose to Reinforce Skills Taught and

Develop Responsible Behaviors; Work and Study Skills (Not intended to challenge or extra work to keep them busy)

– Homework Club after school beginning in October-April (1 day a week) based on teacher recommendation and parent approval.

• Homefun ClubFailure to turn in daily work or incomplete work will result in a

“Homework Alert” being sent home to be signed and returned with the missing homefun the next day. The Homefun Club will be used as an incentive to practice responsibility in returning homefun each day! There will be a bi-weekly and a yearly reward for daily homefun returned!

Reading at Home (RAH)• Monthly Reading Calendar

• 25 minutes/5x per week• Minutes recorded each day of reading• Parent Initials each day of reading • Total Minutes Read for the month• Reading BINGO due with the calendar• End of the month returned to school (Thursday, October 1)• Child’s responsibility to fill out the calendar/Reading BINGO

• Read Silently to Self• Read Aloud (Parent or Sibling)• Fluency Practice Sheets• Encourages reading fluency and builds on and reinforces

comprehension strategies

Assignment Notebooks

• Assignment Notebooks will be filled out everyday and will list “Homefun” that is to be done that evening. Papers will not have a special stamp or HW on them. Papers will be placed on the RETURN side of the Home Folder.

• Please sign the book each night. This ensures better communication between school and home.

• Homework is also on classroom website. (3:30)

• Please take care of them – Office is a little protective of these notebooks!

Absent Work

• If your child is absent, you may call the school to request that homefun be sent home with another student.

• Your child will be given the number of days he or she was absent, plus one extra day to turn in work.

• Extended Absence• Fill out Extended Leave Form from Office• School Policy – Not to give work ahead of time• Plans are made week to week• Students can finish upon return• Read or write in a Journal

• D’Nealian cursive writing will be taught and practiced throughout the year, but not assessed.

• Instruction will focus on legibility, correct sizing and formation, as well as spacing.

• Sample D’Nealian Cursive Letters Attached• Cursive can be used in class once students

receive their license! Once they receive their license, they will become members of the John Hancock club!
