Principal’s Message
Dear 7th Graders,
As principal of MJHS, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Junior High! We are going to have a wonderful 2020-2021 school year! I am very sad that I wasn’t able to meet you in the spring for the 6th grade visit or at the annual 7th grade picnic, but the good news is you can sign up through this presentation for activities that you may be interested in for next year (see slide 13). We hope to be able to have something prior to the first day of school so we can meet you! In the past, we have been able to give the Open House and schedule pick-up dates in our June letter, however, at this time we are not able to share that information quite yet. Since we are not able to host our 6th grade students with a visit to the junior high, it is our hope that we provide enough information in this virtual presentation to prepare your child for the upcoming school year. We look forward to a successful year and remember our first day of school is August 19, 2020.

electives
● Lunch during 4th period
● Teaming
● 7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
7th Grade Teams● Each grade level at MJHS has four
teams. Teaming is a way of grouping students and teachers together to eliminate impersonal, random scheduling.
● There are 6 periods a day and students have four core content curriculum periods with a choice of a variety of electives at MJHS.
● The 7th Grade teams in our red hallway are the Buckeyes and the Penguins.
● The 7th Grade teams in our blue hallway are the Flyers and Redhawks.
● You will find the clinic in our yellow hallway along with the counseling offices.
Media CenterThe Media Center services our 1100 students and 100 staff members at
Milford Junior High School.
Students have access to the Media Center through their classes,
chromebook needs and after school activities such as Homework Club
and/or meetings.
Two classrooms adjoin the Media Center that teachers use for class
instruction as well.
Mental Health ServicesIf a student shows marked social or emotional difficulties, recurrent behavioral concerns, or
home life challenges which cause a disruption to their learning environment, it might be an
indication that they are struggling with treatable mental health symptoms.
At MJHS, we have services available on site. Children’s Home provides case management
services and Child Focus offers preventative care for our 7th and 8th grade students in need along
with our in school support.

MJHS School Resource Officer (SRO)Officer Keith Benhase joined MJHS School
Resource Officer (SRO) two years ago. He is
located in our yellow hallway across from the
counseling offices.
Keith has shown deep passion for the position
and, not only has he provided safety for our staff
and students, but he also serves as a mentor, a
resource for teachers and administrators.
He served on the force for 20 years with the
Miami Township police department and worked
as a supervisor, instructor and detective.
7th Grade Band● The MJHS bands consist of the grades 7-8
bands, which meet separately throughout the school year. There are three directors working with both groups at all times. This allows for an abundance of sectionals and individual work, and permits the percussion section to work separately from the winds.
● Individual seating tests occur twice per school year, and each band performs three concerts per school year. The Milford Junior High School Concert Band annually performs in Class A or B at the OMEA Large Group Contest, and has consistently received superior ratings.
