Calling all those who wish to be His disciples, the Lord Jesus lays down the foundation of such a calling. This is the basic ground rule…without it, there is no discipleship. It is as necessary for us as it was for Jeremiah or Paul or Peter and the Apostles. St Paul sums it up for us when he reminds the Romans, “to offer your bodies as a living sac-rifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” Do not conform to this age…why? Because much of this age does not conform to Jesus and to His call to be a dis-ciple. We must renew in our minds the call to follow Him.

And so we hear Jesus say that He must “suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” Peter ob-jects, Jesus calls him Satan because he is not thinking as God thinks, but as people think.

Then Jesus issues the call, the foundation of discipleship, the basic rule of life in Him, to his disciples, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” So, choose…follow Him in the Cross and suffering…or conform yourself to the world…be transformed or follow the crowd in this world.

This Friday, September 8, we will resume our Friday morning 8:30 am Mass in the church proper with the school children attending, unless we need be out for some special reason. Tuesday morning will continue in the lit-tle chapel. Please get your gift to our missionary from last week in as soon as possible. And, we are looking for catechists for our Religious Education. Please call the parish office. We will be taking up a special collection across the diocese on September 16-17 to assist the vic-tims of Hurricane Harvey. Please be as generous as you are able. St Joseph, pray for us. Fr. Jim

We welcome the following new parishioner who joined our parish in the month of August. Sheryl Brooks from Auburn.

Labor Day Blessing

O God, you asked St. Joseph to accept your will that his wife-to-be would have a Son. St. Joseph accepted your will and worked with Jesus as his father and teacher. We seek your blessing upon all the work of our hands, and we dedicate our work to your greater glory. We ask your blessing upon all workers, especially those who work to make our lives easier and more enjoyable. We ask all this through the intercession of St. Joseph, patron saint of workers, in the name of Jesus your Son, in the unity of Holy Spirit.

Amen.
