Mindset Strategies
Recognize that your students have a choice. How you interpret challenges, setbacks, and
criticism is your choice. You can interpret them in a fixed mindset as
signs that your fixed talents or abilities are lacking. Or you can interpret them in a growth mindset as signs that you need to ramp up your strategies and effort, stretch yourself, and expand your abilities. http://www.mindsetonline.com/changeyourmindset/firststeps/index.html
Mindset Strategies
• As you face criticism:– FIXED MINDSET: “It’s not my fault. It was
something or someone else’s fault.”
• GROWTH MINDSET: “If I don’t take responsibility, I can’t fix it. Let me listen—however painful it is– and learn whatever I can.”
Mindset Strategies
• Whether you take on the challenge whole heartedly
• learn from your setbacks and try again • hear the criticism and act on it is now in your
hands.

“Learning to draw (or sculpt, or paint, or throw on the wheel) is about practice. And more practice. And more practice. The more you work, the better you become. If you can get your kids into the growth mindset, you can get them to realize that work equals success. All it takes to get kids into that growth mindset and achieving their potential is a few simple strategies”.1. Don’t be afraid to tell kids “that’s too easy”.
2. Give effusive praise for kids’ effort–not for their talent.
3. Remind kids that success takes work.
4. Teach kids to embrace criticism.
5. Embrace the challenges, and embrace the mistakes.
