STUDENT WELLBEING Student Wellbeing at Aberfoyle Park High School is underpinned by our values of Respect, Care and Compassion, and Honesty. Our school is deeply committed to every student’s wellbeing as the foundation for successful learning. Our easily-accessible Wellbeing Team includes:

• Two Student Wellbeing Leaders, two Youth Workers, Pastoral Care Worker, Year Level Leaders, and the Assistant Principal of the Middle School

• Small group personal development programs which address the needs of young people including Boys and Girls Wellbeing groups

• The Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring program which supports students as they transition into our school

• Intervention and Learning Support, tutoring in small groups focusing on work completion and after school literacy and numeracy coaching

• Senior School Centre where Year 11 and 12 students can study and be supported by a team of Senior School Leaders and teachers.

• After School Senior Learning Hub where students in Years 10 to 12 can study and be supported by a team of Senior Leaders and teachers.

STUDENT INTERVENTION AND SUPPORT At Aberfoyle Park High School, we are committed to ensuring all students have access to high quality and innovative teaching. Teachers are responsible for providing a differentiated education program that meets the needs of all students and supports engagement and full participation of students at risk. Evidence based resources and targeted intervention programs are used to directly support students’ functional needs and are delivered in a 3-tier model ie. wave 1 intervention is for all students, wave 2 for some and wave 3 for few with specific needs that require substantial adjustments. Some of the programs offered include Quicksmart Numeracy, Multi-lit for literacy intervention and What’s the Buzz for Social Skill intervention. The school has introduced an on-site Speech Pathologist in 2021 who is available one day a week, accessible through an explicit evidence and data-based referral. Some areas the Speech Pathologist may assist the site include; assessments of language, creation of programs for delivery to students short term, supporting teachers in planning for specific student needs and creation of resources for teachers to use with students. STUDENT VOICE AND LEADERSHIP At Aberfoyle Park High School we work to empower our students to actively participate in school life and decision making. We acknowledge that students have unique perspectives on learning, teaching, and schooling. Student leadership provides opportunity for students to lead and influence outcomes by putting forward their views, concerns and ideas and engage in school community events such as Parent Information Evenings, Acquaintance Nights, Governing Council meetings and Open Nights and International Ambassadors.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM Aberfoyle Park High School is a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The school is currently pursuing authorization to deliver the IBDP commencing for 2022 for Year 11 students. If successful, Aberfoyle Park High School students will be able to undertake the two year program, which can also form part of a students SACE. SPECIALIST MUSIC PROGRAM The Specialist Music Program provides students with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, study music theory through the reading and writing of music, study music technology, and participate in a variety of co-curricular ensembles performing in a range of prestigious SA Arts venues. The program engages and stimulates students’ love and appreciation of music, and is delivered by enthusiastic teachers who ensure students strive for excellence.

THE IGNITE PROGRAM

Aberfoyle Park High School is one of only three South Australian public schools that are designated by the Department for Education to specifically cater for the needs of gifted students. The IGNITE Program is designed to enable each student to reach their full intellectual, social and personal potential. IGNITE students have access to a rich and varied educational program and curriculum tailored to the needs of gifted students. Students are selected for entry into IGNITE on the basis of their performance in an Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) assessment. From 2022, ACER testing will occur through an assessment (in February) by interested Year 6 students.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING (VET) There are many job opportunities for students through VET and many registered RTOs are utilised to deliver courses to students with 26 industry areas available for students to pursue career pathways. Students after (or during) completing a

VET course can gain an apprenticeship or traineeship and complete SACE simultaneously.

At Aberfoyle Park High School, we offer 2 courses for Stage 1 and 2 students:

• Certificate II in Construction • Certificate II in Community Services (Children Services)

SPECIALIST FACILITIES MIDDLE & SENIOR SCHOOL LEARNING HUBS: A dynamic and creative space that provides versatile ways for our students and staff to learn. Staff work with individual students, small groups and classes of learners to promote communication and collaboration by innovating the learning process. STEM CENTRE: This recently redeveloped and upgraded learning facility provides students state-of-the art laboratories and Advanced Technologies ‘maker spaces’ that are equipped with 3-D printers, laser cutters, CNC mill and robotics. A computer suite containing industry level Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software supports students learn coding skills and explore engineering concepts. Aberfoyle Park High School has a whole school Bring Your Own Device approach which means that all students are expected to have a device (either laptop or tablet) to learn with in every lesson. Specifications for devices are published on the school’s website.

SCHOOL COMMUNICATION & INVOLVEMENT

We encourage all families to become involved in the life of our school. There is an active Governing Council. A Learner Management System called Daymap enables families to see student timetables, attendance, assessment schedules and grades. Families are encouraged to use this system, or connect by email.
