Settling in Programme

Children attend school part time for the first week.

• The children come in full time during the second week They will also be able to stay for school dinners from this point.

Attending part time helps to ease children into school life and gets them use to the new environment, new classmates, the staff and the routines.

Staff spend time with the children to ensure they settle into school.

Quality First Teaching

Reception children follow the EYFS curriculum

We build the foundations to support children throughout their time in education

The 3 prime areas of learning are Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development and they are embedded into the planning, teaching and learning, throughout the year.

The 4 specific areas of learning include Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design and are planned to enable children to be challenged, at every level.

Alongside the 7 areas of learning are the characteristics of effective learning: Exploring and Playing, Active Learning and Creative and Critical Thinking which, link to behavioural attitudes to learning. They underpin the learning and development and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner.

Snack and Lunch Arrangements

Children can have milk and/or water, in class

The ‘Cool Milk’ scheme entitles your child to receive free milk until just before they turn 5 years old.

Fruit or vegetables are provided (through a government scheme) for the children each day, for a snack.

At lunchtime the staff eat with the children and support them during the first few weeks. Depending on how they get on, it can be longer.

Fully trained supervisors get to know the children at lunchtime to help them to settle and encourage them to eat what they can.

Parent/School Partnership• You, as parents/carers are the child’s main educators

• It is important in EYFS to build a solid relationship with yourselves and work together in educating your child.

• We will ask you to contribute to your child’s on going assessments; through discussions, book looks, reading record book, wow moments, homework book, phone conversations and parent evenings

• Your contributions are valuable and we recognise that children will gain more from school if parents are supportive.

• We will offer opportunities for you to engage in your child’s learning through meetings, workshops, book looks and fun activities e.g. Make an Easter bonnet with your child
