What is Shared Ownership?Shared Ownership is a government backed scheme to help you get a
foot onto the property ladder. You part-buy a property say 50%, and
pay a monthly rent and service charge to Riverside Home Ownership
on the remainder. Because you need a smaller mortgage and pay a
reduced rent, the monthly costs are cheaper than buying outright and
the deposit you need is less.
Can I own my home outright?As an when it suits, you can buy the rest of your home or an extra share
from us in the future, at the market value at the time. Eventually, you
can own 100% of your property. This is known as ‘staircasing’.
What share of the home will I be able to buy?You’ll need to complete an application to start things off and part of this
will cover your financial circumstances. We will let you know what share
you are able to purchase based on your income and outgoings.
Am I eligible?You’re likely to qualify if you are one of the following:
• a first time buyer
• a housing association or council tenant
and...
• your household income is less than £80,000 a year
• monthly mortgage, rent and service charge payments on the property are
less than 45% of your household income after tax.
