Welcome to St Margaret’s Church IfieldLoved as you are

Sunday 1st November 2015 Commemoration of Faithful Departed

All are welcome to St Margaret’s and we encourage all to take part fully in this service. If you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to

come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please notify our sides-people, and we will come to you.

Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the

service.

THE GATHERINGWe stand at the entrance of the choir and clergy and sing:

For all the saints who from their labours rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesu, be for ever blest.Alleluia!

Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;thou, in the darkness, still their one true light.Alleluia!

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,and win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold.Alleluia!

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 2: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewPatients of Langley Green Hospital and Rev’d Richard Poole, Yvonne Bantin, Jean Bovis, Maya, Elston and Richard Alfred Harvey

O blest communion, fellowship divine!we feebly struggle, they in glory shine:yet all are one in thee, for all are thine.Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph-song,and hearts are brave again and arms are strong.Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west;soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest:sweet is the calm of Paradise the blest.Alleluia!

But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day;the saints triumphant rise in bright array:the King of glory passes on his way.Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast, through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost.Alleluia!

THE GREETING

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE

Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

Celebrant God has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of his glory in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. As we acknowledge our human frailty, we call to mind our sins of word, deed and omission, and confess them before God our Father.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 4: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewPatients of Langley Green Hospital and Rev’d Richard Poole, Yvonne Bantin, Jean Bovis, Maya, Elston and Richard Alfred Harvey

All Lord God, we have sinned against you; we have done evil in your sight. We are sorry and repent. Have mercy on us according to your love. Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin. Renew a right spirit within us and restore to us the joy of your salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant The Lord enrich us with his grace, and nourish us with his blessing; the Lord defend us in trouble and keep us from all evil; the Lord accept our prayers, and absolve us from our offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis is sungA Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Amen.

THE COLLECTCelebrant O God, the maker and redeemer of all believers; grant

us, with all the faithful departed, the sure benefits of your Son’s saving passion and glorious resurrection; that in the last day, when you gather up all things in Christ, we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

HOW DEEP THE FATHER'S LOVE FOR US,How vast beyond all measure,That He should give His only SonTo make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss -The Father turns His face away,As wounds which mar the Chosen OneBring many sons to glory.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 6: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewPatients of Langley Green Hospital and Rev’d Richard Poole, Yvonne Bantin, Jean Bovis, Maya, Elston and Richard Alfred Harvey

Behold the man upon a cross,My sin upon His shoulders;Ashamed, I hear my mocking voiceCall out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him thereUntil it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life -I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ,His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward?I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart -His wounds have paid my ransom.

Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel:The Gospel ReadingJohn 11:32-44

The Lord be with you.All And also with you.

Remain standing until the Priest has introduced the Sermon:

THE SERMON We stand for:

AFFIRMATION OF FAITHLet us declare our faith in God.All We believe in God the Father, from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Leader Hear us, risen Lord,All our resurrection and our life.

Towards the end of the said intercessions, in remembrance of those we love but see no longer, you are invited to light a candle and place it on the High Altar while the names of those to be remembered are read out. Your loved one’s name does not have to be on the list for you to do this. If their name is on the list please do not wait for it to be read out before going forward to light your candle.

and at the end of the prayers:

Merciful father,All accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENTWe stand to share the peace:The PeaceCelebrant Jesus says: Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to

you. Not as the world gives, give I unto you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. The peace of the risen Christ be always with you.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. All And also with you.Deacon Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love. The Preparation of the TableThe Taking of the Bread and Wine

Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim, and publish abroad his wonderful name;the name all-victorious of Jesus extol:his kingdom is glorious, and rules over all.

God ruleth on high, almighty to save;and still he is nigh: his presence we have. The great congregation his triumph shall sing, ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

Salvation to God who sits on the throne!Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son.The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim, fall down on their faces, and worship the lamb.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 9: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewPatients of Langley Green Hospital and Rev’d Richard Poole, Yvonne Bantin, Jean Bovis, Maya, Elston and Richard Alfred Harvey

Then let us adore, and give him his right:all glory and power, all wisdom and might, and honour and blessing, with angels above, and thanks never-ceasing, and infinite love.

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation; through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer which the earth has given and human hands have made. They will become for us the bread of life and cup of salvation.

All Blessed be God for ever.

We sit or stand for:The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord be with youAll and also with you.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.

Celebrant And now we give you thanks because through him you have given us the hope of a glorious resurrection; so that, although death comes to us all, yet we rejoice in the promise of eternal life; for to your faithful people, life is changed not taken away; and when our mortal flesh is laid aside, an everlasting dwelling place is made ready for us in heaven.

In communion with angels and archangels, and with all who served you on earth and worship you now in heaven, we raise our voice to proclaim your glory for

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

ever praising you and singing;

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Deacon Great is the mystery of faith:All Christ has died:

Christ is risen:Christ will come again.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.

All Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yoursnow and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

Celebrant Jesus is the living bread which came down from heaven: if anyone eats of this bread, they will live forever.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All Lord, give us this bread always Celebrant I am the bread of life says the Lord: Whoever comes to

me will never hunger; Whoever believes in me will never thirst. I am the vine: you are the branches

All: May we dwell in him as he lives in us. Celebrant This is the table of the Lord. It has been made ready

for those who love him and who want to love him more. So, come, you who have much faith and you who have little; you who have been here often and you who have not been for a long time; you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. Come, not because I invite you: it is our Lord. It is his will that those who want him should meet him here.

Communion HymnsBrian Doerksen. Copyright © 1989 Mercy/Vineyard Publishing/Adm. by CopyCare.FAITHFUL ONE, so unchanging,Ageless One, You're my Rock of peace.Lord of all, I depend on You,I call out to You again and again.I call out to You again and again. You are my rock in times of trouble. You lift me up when I fall down. All through the storm Your love is the anchor,My hope is in You alone.

Blest are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God;the secret of the Lord is theirs, their soul is Christ’s abode.

The Lord, who left the heavensour life and peace to bring,to dwell in lowliness with men,their pattern and their king;

Still to the lowly soulhe doth himself impart, and for his dwelling and his thronechooseth the pure in heart.

Lord, we thy presence seek;may ours this blessing be;give us a pure and lowly heart,a temple meet for thee.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Hymn

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;he is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;he has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword:his truth is marching on.

Glory, glory alleluia! Glory, glory alleluia! Glory, glory alleluia! His truth is marching on.

I have seen him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps. They have gilded him an altar in the evening dews and damps.I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps. His day is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never sound retreat;he is sifting out the hearts of all before his judgement-seat:O be swift, my soul, to answer him, be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me,as he died to make men holy, let us live to make all people free, whilst God is marching on.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)
