“Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love!” Today we celebrate Pente-cost, the 50th day since the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the day on which the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church! The Holy Spirit is a person! The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us, animates and guides the Church, and leads our missionary efforts. St. Cyril of Alexandria, bishop, in a commen-tary on the gospel of John preached, “’As we behold the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, that glory, which comes from the Lord who is the Spirit, transforms us all into His own likeness, from one degree of glory to another.’ Does this not show that the Spirit changes those in whom He comes to dwell and alters the whole pattern of their lives? With the Spirit within them it is quite natural for people who had been absorbed by the things of this world to become entirely other-worldly in outlook, and or cowards to become men of great courage. There can be no doubt that this happened to the disciples. The strength they received from the Spirit enabled them to hold firmly to the love of Christ, facing the violence of their persecutors unafraid.” How exciting to receive a new and deeper outpour-ing of the Holy Spirit that we received in baptism and confirmation. This weekend we celebrate the baptism, confir-mation, and Holy Communion of those who would have entered into the Church at the Easter Vigil. We also cele-brate First Holy Communion with our CCD students and their families! We also continue to welcome more people into the church for the celebration of the sacraments. The Church was born at Pentecost and is continually being renewed and strengthened in unity and mission. May we all grow in faith, hope, and love by the ministry of the Holy Spirit!

WELCOME TO THE LITURGY
CORNER!
What is the aim and object of apostolic work?
What is the most efficacious possible way for God to be glorified and man to be sanctified?
Nevertheless the liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the font from which all her power
flows. For the aim and object of apostolic works is that all who are made sons of God by faith and baptism should come together to praise God in
the midst of His Church, to take part in the sacri-fice, and to eat the Lord's supper."
The liturgy in its turn moves the faithful, filled with "the paschal sacraments," to be "one in holi-ness" [26]; it prays that "they may hold fast in their lives to what they have grasped by their faith" [27]; the renewal in the Eucharist of the cov-enant between the Lord and man draws the faith-ful into the compelling love of Christ and sets them on fire. From the liturgy, therefore, and es-pecially from the Eucharist, as from a font, grace is poured forth upon us; and the sanctification of men in Christ and the glorification of God, to which all other activities of the Church are di-rected as toward their end, is achieved in the most efficacious possible way.
