themselves of computers at school or in the public libraries

• Google Classroom and Chromebooks• Please be sure to take a handout about accessing Classroom• Useful to have at home• Absences: ideally, student can continue to work on individual or partner

work, even when he/she is not in school

Grading Guidelines• TOTAL POINTS:

• Grades given as a fraction (ex.: 8/10)• Point values vary, depending on level of work and time impact• Figure out FINAL GRADE:

• Ex: 8/10 20/20 +90/100 118/130 = 91 avg.

• LATE WORK:• Points deduction for each late day• # of points depends on point value of assignment• Remember: An “F” is better than a 0!!

required• Access to PR also via Parent Portal• PR must be returned to Mrs. O’C• Counts as a HW

• REPORT CARD (at 10-weeks)• Grades under 65 are failing• Summer school DOES exist!• Hard-copy is NOT sent home• Access via Parent Portal

• HONORS: • An average of 90 or higher for

each quarter is expected, in order to maintain Honors status for 8th grade

• ELA skills practice• Organized – all in one place! Less clutter!• Organize thoughts• Accommodate multiple learning styles• Show student growth• Students feel an ownership for their work

• As we fill one up, replace• Great reference source throughout the

year• Graded routinely (10 possible points)

Group Work• Frequent

• Often graded based on a GROUPS rubric (6 possible points)• Expectation: despite feelings about working with someone (either

delighted or disappointed), all students must work their hardest together on the assigned task• Absences during group work: • if Google Classroom is being used, absences should not inhibit the work

process• Otherwise, if a student is absent for more than two days, he/she will most

likely be asked to complete the assignment individually

points being added to that original grade• Throughout the year, I will offer Writer’s Workshops after

school on Wednesdays• Alert you of these dates with a Google Group email

• Extra help availability:• Periods 2, 5, 8, 9 on most days
