Bob will be joining Sunbeam Centre on December 1, 2015. Bob has been the Executive Director of Community Living Guelph-Wellington (CLGW) for the past 18 years. He is an experienced leader who brings a history of service excellence combined with a commitment to fostering a strong and pos- itive work culture. As Executive Director of CLGW, he led this organization through a period of significant growth and introduced many innovations to im- prove service options for clients and their families. Bob is also an accomplished community leader and has worked hard to build and nurture lasting partnerships. He has recently served as the Chair of the Welling- ton Developmental Services Group and co-Chair of the Developmental Services Human Resources Strategy. Bob also serves as a Board member with Facilita- tion Wellington Dufferin and the Waterloo Wellington Dual Diagnosis Committee. His community involvement also extends to his leisure activities; Bob has been on the Board of the Guelph Giants Special Ice Hockey Team and has coached minor Lacrosse. Bob’s lifelong commitment to supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities, along with his visionary and inclusive management style will help Sunbeam Centre to continue down a path of becoming a recognized leader in the delivery of specialized services. Autism Spectrum Disorder Training: Increasing and Improving Speech/Communication Skills
in Non-vocal or Minimally Vocal Children
Presenter: Sandee Lee Hiller
Objectives:
Language delays constitute the hallmark of Autism. These language delays have a direct impact on a host of other important skills such as cognition, play, social and adaptive behaviours. Therefore the most important aspect of any intervention program is the development of effective communication skills. For non-verbal children who have failed to develop speech, their effective communication can often consist of disruptive behaviour, aggression, and even self-injury. This workshop will provide participants with the skills to conduct a functional communication assessment and develop an individualized alternative communication intervention, which meets the learner’s communication and-social needs.

Spaces are limited for some workshops. Please call early to avoid disappointment.
Please note that in the event of bad weather, the workshops may be cancelled. Please listen to 570 News AM, 96.7 CHYM FM, 105.3 KOOL FM or KIX 106.7 FM to find out if the program will be held. As a general rule, all workshops are cancelled on days when schools are closed due to stormy weather. The iPad Information Clinic is an individualized one hour appointment for a caregiver and client to meet with a
Speech-Language Pathologist and explore the use of an iPad. This would be helpful if you have purchased or are
considering purchasing an iPad and would like support in choice of device and appropriate applications (apps).

Parenting Tips
WINTER SUPPORT GROUPS AT DSRC
The Fathers’ Support Group
Evening filled with discussions, information and resource sharing on topics related to intellectual disabilities. Occasional guest speakers!
The Group runs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the last Monday of each month Group does not meet in December.
Fathers of DSRC clients are welcome to attend the groups. A referral is required as this is not a drop-in group.

The Mothers’ Support Group
The Mother’s Support Group at DSRC is a 6-week group that covers the effects of having a special needs child on siblings, marital relationships, extended family, future planning and the issue of grief.
It is a small group which consists of 6 parents, and runs for 6 consecutive weeks on Wednesday morning or evening.
The Morning Group runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Evening Group runs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p. m.
Groups do not run in December.
Mothers of DSRC clients are welcome to attend the groups. A referral is required as this is not a drop-in group.

The City of Waterloo celebrates New Year's Eve with a family-friendly celebration in the Waterloo Public Square. This event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 31, with free outdoor skating. Enjoy the musical and light stylings of a local DJ. There will also be free hot chocolate courtesy of Tim Hortons! Mad science will be on hand for the evening with jaw-dropping demonstrations and free interac-tive activities for the kids. 2016 Wishes, our community art project will be on-site to collect your wish for 2016!
City of Cambridge Royal Bank Presents the Family New Year's Eve Party

Join family and friends to celebrate a new year. To accommodate the great crowds, we will offer wrist bands for the three hours of skate time. Your family can skate from 5-6, 6-7 or 7-8pm. Doors will open at 4:45 pm so you can pick up the wristband that corresponds to the time you and your family would like to skate. Only one skating time per family.
There will be activities to keep everyone entertained off the ice as well. Crafts, games, photo booth, bouncy castle and IncrediBrent will be performing two magic shows at 6 pm & 7 pm.

Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL)
The PAL Card allows persons with disabilities to be accompanied by an attendant free of charge to access community programs and services. If your disability restricts you from performing activities or your disability can’t be eliminated with the use of a technical aid, you may be eligible and can apply for a PAL card. Leisure Buddy
The Leisure Buddy Program is a service designed to provide support to people with disabilities in a recreation program. It is our goal to provide support to persons with a disability who require varying levels of assistance to access and participate in municipal, community based programming. Sensitive Santa – December 6, 13 and 20
This special time to visit with Santa is reserved for children with social, emotional or behavioral needs. This sensory friendly environment provides lower lighting and quieter surroundings. Cambridge Ice Hounds
The purpose of the program is to provide an amateur athletic program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The Program is open to players of any age, male or female, physically able to participate, but who are ineligible or unable to participate in an existing organized program due to his or her disability. Camp C-Bridge (Youth 13 – 18)
Camp C-bridge is a March break camp designed for Teens 13 - 18 with developmental disabilities, who can participate semi-independently with a ratio of 1 staff to 5 campers. Each day has a new theme and the week will have a variety of fun activities, trips, presenters and more!
