MISSION STATEMENT MISSION STATEMENT MISSION STATEMENT

From the Pastor The Presentation of the Lord Sunday, February 2 – The Feast of the Presenta-tion of the Lord is celebrated every year on February 2. Since it is a feast of the Lord, it replaces the 4th Sunday of Ordinary time. Today, 40 days after his birth, Jesus was formally presented in the temple according to Jew-ish law and was there recognized as Messiah by two elderly bystanders, Simeon and Anna. This feast is also called Candlemas because candles are blessed at this Mass. Since 1997, this day has also been kept as “World Day for Consecrated Life” by celebrating and praying for all persons who have taken vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the Church. Other celebrations this week: Monday, February 3 – St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr. This saint cured a boy from choking on a fish bone in the 4th century and ever since has been invoked as a patron saint against diseases of the throat. Those who attend Mass on this day may have their throats blessed by the priest.

Wednesday, February 5 – St. Agnes, Virgin and Mar-tyr in Southern Italy in 251.

Thursday, February 6 – St. Paul Miki and Compan-ions, Martyrs. In Nagasaki, Japan on Feb. 5, 1597, St. Paul and 25 Jesuits, Franciscans and laymen were put to death for their faith. One of them was the Mexican, Felipe de Jesus – the first martyr from the Americas to be beatified. Fr. Timothy

“When parents say ‘yes’ to life for their child, they are saying ‘yes’ to the most loving and healing path for all involved. When God invites us to draw close to him by following his commandments (Jn 14:15), he does so be-cause he wants what is best for us. By saying ‘yes’ to life for their child, which is morally good and right, parents are placing their trust in God and embracing their child and the life their child has been given for as long as it is given.” ~USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities~

In the Gospel, we hear Simeon say to Mary: “… your own soul shall be pierced with a sword—so that the thoughts of many hearts may be laid bare.”

Your generosity enables the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring hope to parents whose hearts are burdened with worries and concerns.

Is God calling you to spend some time listening to people in our community who are in need? Please leave a mes-sage for Dalila at 630-236-1285. Visit our website at http://www.ourladyofgoodcounsel.net/ministry/the-society-of-st-vincent-de-paul/ or come to one of our meetings in the St. Francis Center's Charity Room on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7 PM.

The Psychology of a Faithful Disciple

How to I handle difficult family members? What do I do if I can't control my emotions? When do I correct others and when do I hold my tongue? Too often we are late in realizing that we mishandled a situation causing both resentment and frustration. But what if you could approach every situation with the mind of Christ? Using his decades of experience as a clinical psychologist and a practicing Catholic. Dr. Ray Guarendi, popular radio and TV host, offers here dozens of bit-sized reflections that combine sound spiritu-al advice with the best of modern psychology. Dr. Ray will help you address countless daily problems and create a plan of action for your most common troubles. With his trademark frankness and humor, Dr. Ray tackles topics that too often bring confusion and heartache. Do you have questions please call Anne Strong 630-892-9411.
