Key Club was started by Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent on May 7th, 1925 at Sacramento High School in Sacramento, CA• Sacramento HS still has an active Key

They approached neighboring Kiwanis club to help charter a similar club for service at their high school.

The club was comprised of the key boys in the school, willing to serve the school in any way possible and to create better school spirit. • The club was dubbed Key Club

What to do with the MRF?• Fill in each tab of the file throughout

The Club Roster Within your MRF file, you need to complete all sections in the Roster

tab The club roster is a list of all members’ names, phone #s, addresses,

etc. It is designed to help you when tracking service hours and during

dues collection ALWAYS keep a copy of the roster in your club records! feel free to change this page as needed


The Service Record This tab helps you record the club members’ service hours. Use it to your advantage. It is not necessary, only helpful! Fill out the information as shown on the tab. Add more columns BEFORE the last row to maintain the formula.

Recording Service Hours Continually record members’ service hours Tracking service hours can be labor intensive…or

a breeze! Follow these tips:- Make sign-in/sign-out sheets for events - Create Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets

- Have members keep hour logs, and set a deadline for them to submit their hour logs

- Post updated service hours weekly/monthly at club meetings or on the club website


Tracking Files Remember to track all the

files you accumulate during the year Keep in mind of files for

the e-portfolio when applying for Distinguished

Meeting Agendas and Minutes, Club Event Forms, Division Events, Members’ Service Hours, Workshop Literature, etc.

Time ManagementThe Issue: Putting off the MRF until the night before it is due.

The Consequences: As you become overwhelmed and rush through the form, you become error-prone and the overall quality of your work diminishes.

The MRF is a vital tool for both the club you serve and your LTG. It is essential that every component of the form is completed with accuracy and precision.



Time ManagementThe Solutions:

Enter hours immediately after every event. Do not put it off until later.

As your club runs into obstacles, be sure to jot them down--this will make your life easier as you begin to write your Club Snapshot.

Remember, the Club Snapshot is a reflection. Every club has its ups and downs; be sure to thoroughly address them.

Keep track of deadlines. Be sure to give yourself enough time to finish a couple days before the due date.

Tips BEE organized; organize all paper and electronic work in

files. Create a folder labeled: “KC Secretary 2013-14” for all the

work you accumulate during the year. Do not procrastinate on MRFs! This means waiting till

11:00 PM on the 4th of the month to scramble and fill out the MRF.

Ask your President, IP Secretary, and Lt. G A LOT of questions!

Try making a checklist when you have tasks, checking off each task when you’re done. It is rewarding afterwards!

Remember any part of the MRF can be updated at any time (including past months)

Fundraisers



• Effective fundraisers can:• Raise an abundance of money for a specific cause• Reduce costs for attending events: Fall Rally,

DCON• Make an impact!

• In order for fundraisers to be effective:• It needs to…

• BEE carefully planned with a budget in mind• BEE advertised• BEE supervised• Have a definite purpose/cause

Remember, only funds that were collected for the event can be used for this purpose.

If you raise the money to support attendance at convention, then that is where is must be used.If money is raised to support PTP, then that money is donated to PTP—that is where that money must go.


• Seasonal Fundraisers • Often successful because people are more inclined to

participate in events that only happen during that time of the year

• Ex: Halloween Costume Contest – charge an entry/spectator fee; sell refreshments. Possibly incorporate Trick or Treat for UNICEF!

• Valentine Candy Grams – sell candy grams at lunch and offer to deliver grams to students

“ 4 for you Glen Coco”- Mean Girls• Christmas Cards – Have Key Clubs make their own cards

and have a booth to have the cards on sale for the holidays

Fall Rally is… a district sponsored FUNDRAISER to support the CNH Kiwanis Foundation Pediatric Trauma Program

General Information

• Unintentional injury kills more children every year than any other cause – including disease, homicide, and suicide

• 90% of these injuries can be prevented

Pediatric Trauma Program


• Pediatric trauma is the Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation’s major focus

• Every year, CNH Key Club is able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support our Foundation’s major focus with fundraising efforts that comply with district goals as well as participation in events like Fall Rally

• In turn, creates positive relationships that makes our duties a bit easier

As clubs we want to come together to serve 1,000,000 hours of service.

And as individual members, we each want to save 3 lives from MNT.

Together, this will bring us to one GOLDEN year.

FACTS


WHAT IS PTP?• Accidental injury is the leading

cause of death (40%) among children under the age of 15

• As much as 90% of these injuries can be easily prevented

• Common reasons for severe injuries include biking accidents, faulty car booster seats, domestic dangers, playground injuries, and drowning accidents

• These accidents result from a lack of proper equipment; devices designed for children do not necessarily work for children

• Lack of education about child safety in both the affected children and adult professionals make the treatment more difficult


• Recognizing the need to decrease the chances of accidental deaths among children, the Kiwanis Cali-Nev-Ha Foundation created the PTP Program in 1994

• PTP pairs up with hospitals around our district to facilitate relations between the Kiwanis Family and the medical field• Children's Hospital and

Health Center San Diego• Children's Hospital and

Research Center at Oakland

• Children's Hospital Central California


• PTP creates and funds programs to:• Train pediatric doctors,

nurses and first responders to specialize in child care

• Purchase much needed pediatric medical equipment such as immobilization boards, incubators and blood pressure gauges

• To create or expand community outreach programs that teach the community about the importance of seat belts, helmets, and playground safety etc

PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS


• Donations for PTP are spent in 3 major areas:• Grants to our partner

hospitals-used to fund and create programs to teach staff to specialize in child care

• Grants to Kiwanis and Service Leadership Program clubs-used to fund Key Club PTP service projects

• PTP safety items- to buy safety items such as helmets, electric outlet covers, and child ID kits; these safety items are then sold by the Kiwanis Family at a subsidized cost

include the following:– An estimate of service hours committed to the

project– Date when funds are required– A copy of the club’s current year Community

Effective Planning and Time Management

If you are planning something, plan ahead!Before you start anything, find a venue for

your event. Try to plan at least three months in advance.Keep a planner to remember important dates

and deadlines.(This tip is extremely important)

Make sure you raise the funds needed to make the event happen.

BEE Prepared


• Get things done.- Make a checklist.- Prioritize everything! - Use your resources. In fact,

exhaust them- Ask for help if and when

you need it.- If you want ultimate

security, try to finish everything in advance.


Setting Goals

• Setting Goals is a Form of Art– There are two types of goals:

Short-term and Long-term– Long-term goals are set in the

case of things such as banquets and projects.

– Short-term goals are set in the cases of homework and club meetings

– You can also set checkpoints– Setting goals is a realistic process.


USE YOUR TIME WISELY As teenagers, we are very busy people.

We deal with Family.We have to spend time with Friends.We have Sports Practice.We are committed to Extracurricular Activities.And finally, we love Key Club!


• So, what can we do?- Create a daily schedule for

yourself- Set realistic goals- Finish tasks in order of

How can you support

Children’s Miracle Network?


Contributions to Children’s Miracle Network benefit an array of pediatric programs

and services for young children battling every type

of childhood illness and injury in our communities.

Children’s Miracle Network


Raise awareness- Decorate your school in red and yellow and host a recess or lunch rally with games and information about Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Miracle Balloon Campaign- Host a campaign at school selling Miracle Balloons and

sharing statistics about children and Children’s Miracle Network.


Make cards- Children in hospitals enjoy reading encouraging cards from those in our communities. Encourage your clubs to make cards and physically deliver cards to children in your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

-Do contact a representative from Children’s Miracle Network to get information about what should be included in the cards.


Dance Marathon- Nationwide movement involving students raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as well as interacting with children’s hospital patients and families.

- The dance marathon itself is a 12-40 hour long event where students stay on their feet through dancing, games, and entertainment in celebration of the total amount raised that year.

- The mission statement is “We dance for those who can’t”. We basically do activities to raise funds for children who are unable to do so.

March of Dimes?


Organization that helps mothers have full-term pregnancies and

research the problems that threaten the health of babies.

Funds donated to the organization is used to fund research and

innovative programs for mothers and babies.

Educate and raise awareness- Light up your school in purple and hold a rally raising awareness about mothers and babies as well educating students about March of Dimes.

- Host a “Purple Shirt Day” to raise awareness about March of Dimes.

Prematurity Awareness Month- November is March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Month and November 17 is Prematurity Awareness Day.

- There are many ways you can participate for example updating your Facebook status or posting on Twitter. You can even create your own prematurity activities for the Division’s you serve.

UNICEF & The Eliminate Project?


Working in over 150 countries, UNICEF is a global humanitarian

relief organization providing children with health care and immunizations, clean

water, nutrition and food, security, education, emergency

relief and more.

The Eliminate ProjectKiwanis International and UNICEF has partnered to eliminate MNT, Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the earth by 2015. $1.80 provides a series of three vaccinations which protects a mother and her future babies.

GOAL: $110 million


Participate in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF- Simply order your Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes and go around your neighborhood on Halloween collecting money instead of candy.

Walk to Eliminate- Work with the Division you serve to plan a walk that will parade around a local park or through town raising funds for and awareness of The Eliminate Project.

Cook Off- Work with the Division you serve or your Kiwanis Family to plan a cook off in which each club provides a local favorite food and tasters are charged to taste as well as vote for the winner.


Eliminate Dance- Work with your club to plan a school dance or your Kiwanis Family to plan a dance supporting mothers and babies. Encourage members to collect pledges, charge for entry, and have different activities to help collect funds.

Program to help children get on the right track, teaching lifelong lessons

and having fun every step, leap, jump and throw along the way. It is the largest youth sports program

with hundreds of thousands of children competing each year.
