LAIKIPIA PREDATOR PROJECT 1997-

The Laikipia Predator Project (LPP) is working with the KWS , Ranchers and Communities in Laikipia to develop practical measures which encourage coexistence between people, livestock and predators.

For 15 years: Restored Lions population (-100 to 250) i.e. 6-7/100sqk

Recognized has number 3rd lion strong hold in the Country.

LPP Goal

To devise lion conservation strategies

To protect livestock from predators

To ensure that local people gain significant economic

value from lions and other wildlife, to offset the cost of

living with them.

Reduced livestock depredation from 50%-5% or even to 0%

Do Lions Benefit Laikipia People?

Laikipia's tourism employs approximately 1300 people, creating approximately 196m Kenya Shillings in wage earnings per year. Each employee has an average of 5 dependents meaning that through employment about 6500 people are directly dependent on tourism.
