Happy Easter!! I have wonderful memories of Easter! When I was a child the best part was going down to the dining room table and

finding an “Easter basket”, actually it was an Easter nest, filled with jelly beans, candy, and of course a chocolate

Easter bunny. A couple of times we received real bunnies for Easter. We would care for them until it was time to let

them go. But, on most occasions we received dyed chickens ... a blue one, a pink one, a yellow one, a violet one, etc.

Each child was responsible for naming his/her chicken, feeding it and caring for it. When they began to grow we

would put them outside under a cage during the day. A couple of times our cat, Louie “the hunter”, would find a way

to flip up the cage and have himself a meal. That was never a pretty site. And poor Louie had to bear the brunt of our

grief and anger at losing a chicken or two. When they were too large to manage we took them to our cousins, the

Stark’s, farm. Mr. Stark always remembered the names of our chickens. So that, when we visited later on he could

point them out ... “there’s Fluffy, and here’s Gertrude, and there’s Sunshine, etc.

Another memorable event was going to Mass on Easter Sunday. The church was packed with people celebrating

Easter in style. The women and girls in their colorful Easter dresses and brilliant Easter hats and the men and boys in

their suitcoats, multicolored shirts and ties all bespoke of springtime, warmth, and new life.

This weekend we gather to celebrate the greatest event in human history ... the redemption of our lives from the

bondage of sin and the hope of everlasting life with God in heaven. “The sadness of death gives way to the bright

promise of immortality! Christ is risen!”

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the event that inspired the writing of the gospels. The disciples of Jesus had

watched as their leader was condemned and crucified. They saw him die on the cross. But when they beheld him in

their midst three days later their lives were so powerfully changed and transformed that they were even willing to

suffer persecution and death proclaiming the truth about Jesus Christ ... what they had witnessed and believed. The

Easter story was the beginning of the new life and ministry of the disciples and it was also the promise, the end of the

story of their own lives in Christ Jesus.

Back at the beginning of Advent I told you how excited I was about Christmas, I felt like a child awaiting with eager

anticipation the celebration of that wonderful gift of God — His Son who came to live among us. I have been awaiting

with eager anticipation this Easter celebration, too. There has been an excitement in the air that is hard to pinpoint ...

it’s an inner liveliness and eagerness for the coming of Jesus anew in my life and in the lives of all of you.

May the God of glory through his Son Jesus Christ bless you and your families with peace, love and joy during this

Easter season. May you truly come to experience in the depths of your hearts the richness and beauty of God’s love

and the gift of salvation won for you through the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

Happy Easter and God bless you!

Fr Bob

The Casa Mission Team will be hosting a Casa Hogar Drive for clothing and

first aide to be take to Casa with them in July.

When: April 9th Time: 8am to 1pm Where: Holy Name School Gym

What can do the children need? Clothing for boys and girls ages 5-17. Clothing should be new or very lightly used. All clothing must be modest in nature; no tank tops for girls,

hemlines/shorts cannot be too short and shirts should have appropriate printing. Shoes are always needed, especially dress shoes for both boys and girls.

First aid supplies in all types, especially Neosporin. Items must be sealed and medicine cannot have expired. Personal items such as toothpaste and deodorant are also nice with this

donation. As a special treat, we are hoping to take soccer balls, footballs and other outdoor activity equipment for the kids to enjoy. One thing they often run low on are presents (toys, stuffed animals, games) for birthday gifts. Please be

mindful that complex game directions and books should be in Spanish. In order to take the donations to the children, used suitcases

are needed. Along with monetary donations to help with the charges to check the luggage. In 2012, the Mission Team took (17) 50# suitcases with us. If we are blessed again with

that amount of donations, the luggage charges could be as much as $950. NO part of this monetary donation will be

used towards the cost of the trip for any participant.

If you would like to drop off donations at a time other

than the drive, have

questions about this drive or would like to make a donation, please contact Noel Furger at 715-842-4543 or at
