Midm Middle SchoolI am looking forward to going to

middle school. I am excited and a little nervous.Somehow all the kids seem to like

it,butThey love telling me horror stories

about what goes on there.

My parents are the ones who are really nervous.

If they ask me once more if I am scared,

I think they will convince me that I really am.

What Can I Expect from Middle School? In elementary school you wondered about which teacher

you would have next year. In middle school, you may have to get to know a different teacher for every class. No two are the same, and some you will like more than others. Keep in mind, they are all on your side. Get to know their expectations and what they like and don’t like.

Middle school means choices and more choices! Not only do you take part in academic classes, but also, there is the opportunity to participate in clubs, sports, band, choir, and art! Be sure to keep in mind that some electives have outside commitments! Don’t take on more than you can handle!

There are also new rules about dress codes!

Learn to Balance! The path through middle school can seem tricky at times! Eat right, exercise, get plenty of rest, and find time to de-stress!

Middle school can be lot’s of fun- especially if you decide to make it that way!

Scheduling Students in grade six are required to take five core classes- reading, math, English, science, and social studies. In addition, there is a new course requirement called Computer/Writing.

NEW CLASS – You will take one class one semester and the other, the second semester. Only a few students may be eligible to opt out.

Students must also be enrolled in a course that meets the state-mandated PE requirement (band, choir, or PE).

Opt out to meet PE requirement - Consideration will be given if you are an accelerated student who may qualify for two electives.

If you meet accelerated requirements, you may sign up to take accelerated math or English. You must have your teachers recommendation, 70% or above on April MAP assessment.

Return completed choice sheets to your teacher by April 8th.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

Student Worries How long are the classes? How long between each

class? Where do I go when I get to

school? How will I find my way

around? What is lunch like? What if I don’t know anybody? When do I get to use the

library? Do we have recess?

Parent Worries Where do I drop my kids

off? How do I communicate with

teachers? Will I ever know what is

going on? How will I stay informed? Will there be a lot of

homework? How many kids in each

class? Can I still be involved?
